Art & Life with Maggie Stabile and Kayla Van de Bunt

Today we’d like to introduce you to Maggie Stabile and Kayla Van de Bunt.

Maggie and Kayla, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
We became friends in elementary school and grew up in Los Angeles doing theatre together. We both went on to receive theatre degrees from out of state universities, then moved back to LA to pursue our careers in the entertainment industry. After a few years of acting in small projects and working on production teams for network shows, we met a badass female production team and joined up with them, making short films.

Along this journey, we discovered that what we really wanted to do was create our own content. While working to make our film aspirations come to life, we stumbled upon the idea to create a podcast. We felt that our friendship and our interests created a unique contribution to the medium; a chance for us to be ourselves and do what we love best: learn stuff and make people, and each other, laugh.

Can you give our readers some background on your art?
We co-host a comedy podcast about unsolved mysteries. At its core, the podcast is about story-telling, but it’s also about a sense of humanity and connection. We want listeners to feel that they are a part of our friendship. We’ve found that laughter is the best way to connect with people and make them feel that they belong. Life is full of mysteries, but it’s not always about solving them or finding answers. For us, it’s about the journey, learning, laughing, and sharing it with others.

Do you think conditions are generally improving for artists? What more can cities and communities do to improve conditions for artists?
As artists in 2019, we have more opportunities to share our work with others through free platforms. However, the market is saturated, and it makes it more difficult for artists to be properly compensated for their work. The best thing we can do to help artists is lift up diverse voices, and support each other. We also believe in the importance of supporting artists’ unions.

What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
Our podcast is available on Apple Podcasts, SoundCloud, Spotify and Stitcher. You can follow us on Instagram for updates @mysteryteaminc
