We’re looking forward to introducing you to Tony Lattimore. Check out our conversation below.
Tony , we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: What are you most proud of building — that nobody sees?
Both of my businesses are thriving, but I don’t think others see it. 98% of my business is referral, so I am grinding daily to keep my pipeline full!! We are comfortable & very happy due to the daily work that I do!!
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am Tony Lattimore. A lot of people know me as “Tony The Marine” from the original P90x. Also, I am the “Photographer to the Stars” of Orange County, California, so I shoot all of the super fabulous events in our area. Also, I am an international superstar fitness star & teach cardio classes in Tecate, Mexico at a high-end fitness spa.
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
I grew up in Downers Grove, Il, a mostly white suburb. I was always secure with who I was, a successful black man, but I grew up with an insecurity that I wasn’t good enough. I went directly to the Marine Corps after graduation & I still had the insecurity that my counterparts were all better. Only after visiting school after graduating Bootcamp did I understand that I was on a forward tragectery & many of my white counterparts had peaked in high school. The coolest guy that I knew was pumping gas when I was about to travel internationally!! I rock & that’s when I knew it!!
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
I moved to California in 1998 to be a Fitness Super Star. I achieved that goal in the first 2 years here. In 2007 I lost my condo & thought that I would have to return to Illinois with my tail between my legs. It was devastating & hurt bad. Fortunately someone who I helped in the past in their down time reached out & said come stay with me. I regrouped quickly & have thrived ever since!! Never give up!!!
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? Is the public version of you the real you?
Yes. I genuinely love people!! I am a Trainer & Photographer & I am known for being “friends to everyone”.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope people tell the story of Tony Lattimore, the guy that loved everyone, that broke racial lines & set the example of a successful person, not “person of color”, & worked hard to take care of his family & friends!!
