Story & Lesson Highlights with michael foulkrod of LA-culver city

We’re looking forward to introducing you to michael foulkrod. Check out our conversation below.

Hi michael, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: What are you most proud of building — that nobody sees?
the years of creative chapters from my home town years, art school ,soho 80s nyc, and LA the many interaction i had with designers ,celebs and art opportunities . what people dont see are the years of experience and the versatility ive done threw out my life and not set to one thing what i am proud of is that i have developed a skill set and understanding of what am seeing and do it

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
From Montclair NJ Started in NYC as one of best decorative painter in 1983 and now living the dream painting for myself y. in LA.. I still do projects for clients and hotels like the chateau marmot. my skill is old school traditional but i can do any style confidently .My preferred taste is in dymantic landscapes like tornados and fires, portraits and concepts, Now and then when there a current event i may pick up on it and do a painting of it

Okay, so here’s a deep one: What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
about 8 yearsold i went to the Frick museum in NYC with my mother and seeing the large self portrait of Rembrandt so so amazing i have never forgotten that moment All i could think of was i want to do that, .realizing it was something i could do alone with out pressure to please anyone but myself

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
as a young artist in NYC in the 80’s it felt like you didn’t have a chance, no matter how talent you where. with a small resume plus you had to have slides and the gate keepers where tuff to know plus on top of it all i was getting sober fearing of being being coming a jersey drunk with a utility job .then I had lost a large body of work and had days of what the use of it if i can’t survie so pain can be the only teacher sometimes and learned to take pain and turn it into art one day at a time

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Is the public version of you the real you?
i hope so and am sure some people have an idea of me because they dont know me but thats ok as long as i keep my side of the street clean and stay honest . i may not have tons on soical media follows which my life is not about being a content provider . i see so many addicted people to social media as if they protect an alter ego and i dont understand them but those i do grow with me over the years see who i am . we all find our tribe and our work falls into a lane am sure some who know me well think may be intense and funny at the same time

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. If you retired tomorrow, what would your customers miss most?
to be one of the cast of characters in clients home to bounce off of. To be sober out side the box for some people looking in as like what it was like for me and carrie fisher beng someone house hold friend .what i was told once was people liked that i did what i wanted with out bothering clients to much. i like to be known as a good painter not a great painter because that belongs to the masters who set the bar i wish i could retirer but am still just squirrel trying to get a nut
