Story & Lesson Highlights with Mark Dalbeth of Orange County

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Mark Dalbeth. Check out our conversation below.

Hi Mark, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: What makes you lose track of time—and find yourself again?
Social Media, TV and Poor planning.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m from New Zealand and are now living in Orange County, California.
I ended up here when my band from Australia at the time got asked to move to USA by management, to pursue the career further.
Currently I run a MGMT company called Rav Medic, that looks after Australian acts Karly Jewell and Chasing Lana, in addition help manage my new band Blvd of Eyes, which is a Alt. Metal outfit based in Los Angeles, which is about to embark on an Australian tour later this month.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: Who taught you the most about work?
My Dad is a very hard worker, so I feel like I have picked up that trait a lot from him.
Relentless work effort, sometimes to the detriment of my own health and sanity at times.
Never really been one to ask for any hand outs or short cuts. Would rather pick the hard road and travel down that one.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Around 2015 when the band I was in at the time broke up, that was a very challenging time for me. As for a very long time, that was my identity.
Was fortunate to met my now Wife around that time, which was a big pick me up and then from there went to work on creating the first Rav Medic record.
As much as that was a very small independent record and one that got the less push publicity wise, it was equally the most important one.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
That talent is all you need.
There are so many factors, albeit not great ones that dictate the career of a musicians. The most important thing a musician can focus on first is the music, as long as that is under their control and not being short changed, they can try and navigate the rest afterwards.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. When do you feel most at peace?
Creating something that I feel proud about. Also, any type of chance to get outside in natural is always a nice reset.
