We recently had the chance to connect with Julia Wiss and have shared our conversation below.
Julia, a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: When was the last time you felt true joy?
I feel true joy almost on a daily basis as I have two sons – an almost 10 year old and a 3.5 year old. They love each other beyond words. When I see them together: playing, wrestling, laughing, cuddling or even just watching a show while holding each other – my heart melts. I always knew I wanted to be a working mom. I love what I do. AND I knew I always wanted to have kids. What you don’t know when having them – how they will be with each other. Seeing the love and care and support they provide each other brings me joy beyond words.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am a co-owner of Lumen Wealth Group – Financial Planning forward Wealth Management Firm. We love solving puzles – every financial picture is unique – with different goals, struggles, incomes and other considerations. Nothing brings us more happiness that taking the financial stress out of our client’s lives.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
I remember an early childhood memory – I was sitting at a dinner table with a bunch of adults – the man next to me says, do you always ask this many questions? As far back as I can remember, I was curious, bold and ambitious. I didn’t belive in a “no” or limitations. The world never told me who I had to be. I’ve always told the world who I was and to watch out as I was going to break boundaries.
When you were sad or scared as a child, what helped?
I imagine my braing to be like a dresser – many different drawers and compartments. If there is a scary/sad thought that enters, I open a drawer and put the thought there and close the drawer back. That way, it doesn’t occupy the whole space in my body.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
My family, my clients and my friends. I hold those three groups very dear to my heart and would do almost anything for them.
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: What will you regret not doing?
I regret not living in Europe. I had an opportunity to do a study abroad in Paris and didn’t do it due to financial reasons. I would do anything to have those six months in Paris. My business doesn’t translate internationally. Post Covid, we do a lot of meetings over Zoom, however the time difference would make it pretty challanging to live in Europe and take care of the clients in the US. I haven’t given up the idea yet though.
