We recently had the chance to connect with Jamie Perdue and have shared our conversation below.

Jamie, we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: What do you think is misunderstood about your business? 
That fame [achievement] fixes a broken heart… I’ve been having conversations with God lately about the heart, and how the heart relates not only to the world, but also entertainment and show-business. Scientists and believers-in-God agree that; our hearts, along with our mind and will – is who we really are; also known as the soul. So, shouldn’t it matter if that is broken, or whole?…

A buzzword lately has been “mental health, mental health. therapy, mental health”, and don’t get me wrong, I totally agree with therapy and mental health as tools for wellness; but what about emotional health, emotional health, emotional health?

So many of us focus deeply on getting our minds right so we think better thoughts, while forgetting about the House of Our Emotions – Our Heart.
So, we walk around with intelligent thoughts, having intellectual conversations, making awesome strategies at work and projects, thinking up the next best ideas; all while having a broken heart that no one can see or hear… And even worse; fix….

So in life and business, it looks like, superstars selling out arenas, performing at the most iconic award shows of the season that only rolls around once a year, writing bestselling novels, plays, and books; being chased by paparazzi for a still moment in time because the world treasures you; All – while – having- a- broken – heart! Don’t even get me started on what we’ve seen time and time again we as humans do to fix a broken heart, from drugs to sex to rage to any numbing mechanism you can think!

When the heart is broken, the soul is broken; and if the soul is broken; YOU are broken. I think we have automatically assumed and misunderstood for a long time that, if someone seemed to successfully accomplish their dreams or goals then.. “they had it all together’… But, I’ve learned, you can look like you have it “all together” all while hiding the broken you… *Cue* Britney Spears – “Lucky”. I’ve found the cure that riches or fame can’t fix… “God, I want a healed, pure, clean, whole heart…”

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hey CanvasRebel readers! Well that was a deep introduction wasn’t it? Y’all went straight for the heart [laughs]. It’s good to be with y’all again for an encore, y’all are some good, talented, and creative folks; and you’re out here making dreams come true, I can dig that!

I’m Jamie Perdue, auteur; writer-director and producer based in Hollywood, California. I also work in Hollywood as an entertainment executive! Can we also put in the interview I’m a lover of God and humanity? [laughs] yeah, that’d be cool if y’all put that in there.

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What part of you has served its purpose and must now be released?
I think everyone wants to feel seen, desired, loved… Known, right? But what if we found, we already were all of that, and much, much more by The Creator of this very existence?

I too, like everyone else, wanted to just have my work seen, appreciated, known, and also feel loved and cherished by most; but, I’ve come to a place where, sure it’s nice to have, but it’s not why I’m living for.

I already have all those things from the most powerful existence of life itself; God [Love]. So now, I get to let go of doing it for love and live out the rest of my life doing it 𝘧𝘳𝘰𝘮 love…

Cool right? Let’s chat more deeper about that if you’d like.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
Those dreams about life you have… Keep them. They’re real. They’re just invisible; look at you kid! You’re already tapping into a realm that cannot be seen, and daring to believe that one day, you shall see… You’re brave! The world will try to rob you of that belief, imagination, the impossible, the invisible you see; but I dare you to hold on to your dreams, your belief in Goodness; oh, and it won’t hurt [it’ll only help] keep talking to God, asking for help along every step of the journey; He’s real too! 🙂

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. Is the public version of you the real you?
As long as I continue to live from that space of my heart is whole, and I’m moving from a place of the overflow of love, not lack of it; then yeah… It’s the real me you get.. [pauses] unless I haven’t had my iced coffee that morning… then you may get me a little hangry but… I guess that’s the real me too? Yeah, I need that coffee man.. [laughs]

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: Could you give everything your best, even if no one ever praised you for it?
Absolutely! That’s kind of what developing a film, or I guess any project really, feels like. It’s all inside your head, or heart, and you’re literally bringing it from the unseen into the seen world. Sure, many people can’t see what you see, or can’t hear what you hear; but, there’s this entire movie that you’ve seen many times before, and it’s awesome, but without praise, you’re tasked with bringing it from your head/heart, to script, to screen – the world.

That’s a beautiful place to create from because, sometimes all you’ve got cheering you on is God! Sure, others’ll catch up to it one day maybe, but it’s beautiful to create or just be even, from a place of knowing you’re already approved, and loved, by God!
