Grace , a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: What makes you lose track of time—and find yourself again?
Reading has a way of making time slip away from me. I forget everything else around me. It’s calming, inspiring, and helps me reconnect with myself in a way nothing else does.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Grace Patterson and I am an actress, author, writer, and producer passionate about storytelling in every form. I’ve starred in various Lifetime Movies and horror films and I’m the author of four books: Am I Perfect Yet? Finding Fullness In My Authentic Self, Heart On Her Sleeve, The Things She Doesn’t Say, and A Woman’s World. My first fiction novel, Timeless, will be released by the end of the year, which I’m incredibly excited about. Recently, my husband and I just produced our second feature film, Croatoan, and we’re very proud of what we created together! Through our company, Bankhead Productions, we’re constantly developing new and meaningful projects that entertain and connect with audiences.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
When I was little, storytelling was my whole world. At just nine years old, I would spend hours making short films, writing scripts, and dreaming of new ideas. Creating was my escape. But as I grew up, the world told me to focus on other things like beauty standards, cheerleading, and fitting into boxes that never felt right for me. I followed that path for a while, but it wasn’t me. Deep down, I’ve always been a little nerdy. I like to read, write, and create. That’s where I feel most myself, and who I’ve always truly been.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
I have definitely had moments where it has crossed my mind. But deep down, I know there’s no quitting something that’s a part of you. I remember an old acting coach once told me, “Artists are born, not made,” and I’ve carried that with me ever since.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. Is the public version of you the real you?
For the most part, yes. I am more casual that I probably appear on social media. Most days, you can find me curled up in sweats by the fireplace with a good book. I like to think that version of me comes through online.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What are you doing today that won’t pay off for 7–10 years?
I think everything I do takes that long to pay off. I have been acting since I was nine and writing since I was a teenager. Everything I am obsessed with, takes years, even decades, to get any result.
