Story & Lesson Highlights with GIRLSTUPID

We recently had the chance to connect with GIRLSTUPID and have shared our conversation below.

Good morning GIRLSTUPID, it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? What battle are you avoiding?
The battle between Kaia, the killer, and the rise of the stolen horses.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
GIRLSTUPID is an acoustic-alternative-folk trio made up of Megan Winsor, Diana, and Yugs — three solo artists turned band after meeting at LAAMP, a pop songwriting bootcamp hosted by Stargate and Chris Anokute. In a week of burnout-induced rebellion, they wrote goofy, honest songs about space cadets, horses, and being kinda sad — and people loved them. Now, GIRLSTUPID is bringing joy back into indie music, one silly little song at a time. They’ve played iconic LA venues like Hotel Cafe and The Mint, and made their festival debut at Marcus King Band Family Reunion in 2025.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
A couple of stupid girls, waiting for a chance to prove themselves in the…BIG LEAGUES

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
yes

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
That the silly little songs you make about beans and space cadets wont get you anywhere. Then suddenly you’re in a girl group with one guy performing at a Marcus King Band festival across the country…

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. Are you tap dancing to work? Have you been that level of excited at any point in your career? If so, please tell us about those days.
Diana and Megan used to tap dance back in the day. Their feet are less coordinated now. Yugs’ feet have always been uncoordinated.

We’ve never really been that excited about tap dancing as its not our main shtick.

Next question please…
