Story & Lesson Highlights with Diamond Allen of North hollywood

We recently had the chance to connect with Diamond Allen and have shared our conversation below.

Diamond, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: Who are you learning from right now?
I’m learning from all the actors and filmmakers that havecome before me. I’m studying their work truly studying taking the best parts of them. To learn from and strengthen my own craft.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Shine bright like a Diamond! That’s me! Diamond Allen. I am a filmmaker a writer, an actress and a producer. We do it all over here. My brain is known as the diamond standard because this career path is tough as long as you shine through it it’ll get there I have been in this business for now 10 years currently working on my first feature film with some really cool actors also pitching my limited series and it’s taking up most of my time as projects tend to do and I’m loving every minute of it.

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What part of you has served its purpose and must now be released?
Survival mode, boy do I thank survival mode! It got me through some of the worst times of my life where I thought there was no way I could make it out. It was my friend, my companion, my guiding light and it must now be released because I need to know that I can succeed without pain following or leading it. I want to learn how to succeed without having to have my back up against the wall to get it! It’s time for a soft life so I will release you survival mode and may we never meet again, but if we do go gentle.

What did suffering teach you that success never could?
Suffering taught me the hustle in the grind of what I was seeking. It also taught me how to keep the success once I got it. You have to have a strong foundation because once you add the heaviness of the success onto it, it can crumble and oh no baby, we can’t have that! There’s joy in the suffering and hustle. Sometimes you just gotta know where it is. And where to look for it you really have to enjoy the journey from start to finish. If you spend too much time looking at only the finish line, you’ll miss all the beauty that happens in the in between time.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
A project that I’m committed to no matter how long it takes are my feature film
and my limited series, they speak about my worst experiences in life and the other speak about my greatest lessons in life and their worth telling for, however long it takes to tell them. Also my belief in human condition. We can’t survive without connection! I’m an introvert by nature but I know I need other humans and I enjoy so much when we can come together and do good things with one another.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. Could you give everything your best, even if no one ever praised you for it?
Yes, I could give everything my best and never be praised for it because I’m doing it for more than myself. I make films for humans and for the human condition and then I clap for myself for getting through it and sticking through it because the follow-through is the hardest part, but when you know that what you’re working on is greater than you, it makes it easier to follow through
