Story & Lesson Highlights with Blake Leon of Calabasas

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Blake Leon. Check out our conversation below.

Blake, we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: What are you most proud of building — that nobody sees?
I’m proud of a few things… I’m proud of building myself and my company up in this industry. It’s not a process that everybody gets to see, especially in the early stages, except the people closest to you, like your friends, family, and team. They get to see all the effort you put in but most of the world just sees the success and not what it takes. So, I’m proud of where I’m at, and the things I have ahead of me, especially being someone that moved out to Los Angeles with nothing and knew nobody, It’s been a wild ride thus far and I’m very grateful for everyone who has been supportive, and I wouldn’t be here without them. I’m also proud of the relationship I built with my girlfriend. We keep things pretty low-key for the most part and I feel, in this industry, it’s truly hard to trust and find someone that loves you for who you are and not what you can do for them. I’m lucky to have found that, my close friends and family get to see that but it’s not something everybody gets to see and I’m not only proud but fortunate of that.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Blake Leon, I am 26 years old, and I’m an Actor, Producer, Writer. I recently started my own production company called BEL Productions, and we’ve started developing projects and stories that I think the world should see and know about. A lot of them are true stories about some incredible people and a lot are also originals that I think people would like to see. I know audiences are asking for more original stories and the ones were developing at BEL are new and fresh concepts that we’ve never seen before and I’m really excited to bring them to the big screen.

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who taught you the most about work?
My dad taught me the most about work. He’s a chiropractor, and I watched him build his practice up from nothing. It’s motivating and inspiring to watch your dad do that and provide a life for you and your family that you only wish to do for your own.

But he has shown me that hard work and perseverance will prevail, and you have to believe in yourself, set goals for yourself, and never let someone tell you can’t do something. If you have that, the only person that can stand in your way, is you.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
I wouldn’t say that there was ever a time where I almost gave up, cause I would never give up. But there have been times where you feel absolutely defeated or stuck, and you start to question yourself and the choices you made or if this is the career you want to chase, but then that little voice in your head starts to tell you and remind you why you chose this path and you get back on track and keep moving forward. Having an amazing girlfriend and a great family who support me during this journey is a big help too.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. Is the public version of you the real you?
Absolutely! The version people see of me in public or in my home is the same. Kindness is free and it’s like the old saying, treat others how you would wish to be treated, and I carry that with me wherever I go.

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
Definitely when I was born to do. I grew up playing sports and my dream for a very long time was to be a professional athlete, either in the NHL or on the PGA tour. Unfortunately, that was not in the cards for me, but there was always something deep inside me that pulled me towards film and I do believe that everything happens for a reason. You have to do what you love and you can’t be afraid to take a chance. I’m not only doing what I was born to do, but I’m doing it with someone I was born to be with. I’ve been with my girlfriend, Alaya, for almost a year and a half, and she has been a huge part of my journey. It’s really good to love what you do, but it’s more important to love who you do it with. Taking on this industry is not an easy road but she’s always right there pushing me to keep going and be better every day. I love what I do, I love making movies, I love telling stories, and I wouldn’t change anything for the world.
