Shaneisha, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
My life has been so busy lately. Sleep, has been bringing me joy lately.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Shaneisha Dodson founder/CEO of the Brilliant Girl. We are a small business that creates dolls, children books, paintsheets and puzzles. We are home to the first black 18 inch superhero doll.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
I’ve always been myself. I’m hardworking, honest and reliable. My mindset has always been if you want something in life to go get it.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
You are awesome. You don’t need anyone’s approval to be great.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
My peace. I will do everything in my power to protect my peace. That could be removing people from my life who cause drama, or not allowing myself to be pulled to thin.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. If you laid down your name, role, and possessions—what would remain?
My accomplishments nor titles define who I am. If all that was taken away, I would still be a God-fearing woman who loves her privacy.
