Today we’d like to introduce you to Zaria Rosado.
Hi Zaria, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
As a photographer my journey began in college in art history class when I learned about the greats like Gordon parks and Vivian Maier. It was then refined in my digital photography class when I was given assignments which required me to go out into the world and practice. Funny enough that’s when I began using film In order to get me away from using my camera on auto lol. I was so nervous to do street photography , having to talk to people or even worse sneak pictures. My introvertedness forced me to sneak pictures but pretty soon I was so comfortable going up to strangers and asking them for a picture it became my main goal to get as many portraits of randoms on the street as I can. My journey as a creative began when I was about 10 years old in dance class and would express myself through music and movement. Leading up to now where I ALWAYS have music playing at my shoots and if you’ve shot with me you know I’m dancing when we’re not in session. Now most of my shoots are curated and not as spontaneous. Have grand , imaginative ideas and every shoot is an important production for me. I learned pretty early on (as a Leo rising for my astrology girls and guys) that nothing I do can be average. I put my heart , soul, sweat, and tears into every shoot. I curate ideas down to the very last detail.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Most of the challenges I’ve come across were created by myself and my own mind getting in the way of action. I tend to overthink ideas and projects into a state of freeze where I just don’t do anything. I think that stems from being a perfectionist and scared of the idea not coming out the way I imagined, Another being the fight between artist and content creator. I’ll die on the hill that creatives are not supposed to be pumping out content and forced creativity is never genuine. I’ve felt the pressure of other creatives even photographers of the constant questions “why don’t you post on ig” or “you need to post consistently” all while the goal was never to be seen or have a mass amount of followers. It was only to create and bring my ideas to life.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I , Zaria Rosado am a film photographer, creative director, visionary, and emotional translator. I plan, execute and create visual scenes that can transport you into another world. At least that’s the goal when you see my work lol. I’d like to say I’m known for a cinematic fashion photography style that features deep shadows, deep colors and different textures. I’m most proud of my personal shoots where I’m pretty much everything in the production which is the photographer, creative director, lighting, and producer. Although I love getting together teams where people can use their talents, have fun and create something amazing.
Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
I loveee astrology if you couldn’t tell from my earlier reference , I study my own chart and find things that could be potential challenges but also my strengths. It’s sort of assuring to everything I have an intuitive feeling about to be confirmed by the stars. I also love an encouraging ceo baddie podcast to motivate me. Chani Nicholas is both of those with her weekly astrology forecast. Kimberly Bizu is the definition of an empowering woman and talks all things womanhood on her podcast rich little broke girls. Also mine and your rich BFF Vivian tu for all things finance with her podcast “Networth and Chill”
