Rising Stars: Meet Wil Williams of West Los Angeles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Wil Williams.

Hi Wil, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started dance when I was 8 years old in Philadelphia. My Mom took Jazz class as exercise. The studio mentioned they had kids classes for me. That’s when it all started. As an adult I moved to Los Angeles to perform. One day I applied at a gym to teach dance. They told me to get fitness certifications. That’s when dance and fitness first came together for me in the early 2000s.

After teach all over Los Angeles from LA Fairs, park festivals, farmers markets, schools, corporations, dance studios, gyms, night clubs…… Diana and I met. Diana my business partner was looking to get back into another business after her 3rd child started school.. Having learned business skills growing up working hard in her Hungarian parents store in Los Angeles, Also being a professional student Diana has taken dance class all around the world frim the best of the best for years. She knows a good class when she sees it. She took my class one day and that ishow LA Dancefit studio began.

The focus of the studio is happiness and good times. Would class instructors teach Hip-Hop, Chair dance, Zumba, cardio workouts, stretch class, Bollywood, Jazz funk and more. 75-100 classes per week includingdance classesin the beach. Our students even perform yearly in our adult recitals called dance teams.

LA Dancefit has been the scene of countless movies, TV shows and commercials. Additionally celebrities love to dance here incognito.

All in all dance can be fun fitness as long as the teacher stays positive, gives plenty of repetitions and is ultra prepared. Many studies show the benefits of dance on mood, memory, and overall well-being. That’s what we are here for. We love it and we love you too.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The challenges are trying to please everyone. Too hot, too cold, too loud, not loud enough, favorite song worst song. We do our best to be family friendly and encouraging. However we are human too. Maintaining smiles during difficult times takes effort. We must remind students to be kind to each other, share space, treat the bathroom decently. Getting everyone to follow studio etiquette by first come first serve, no cutting in front, Eccesive gravel from shoes destroys our beautiful floor. These are some of the challenges and struggles.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Diana and I work nonstop to provide a welcoming, motivating environment to learn dance, enjoy dance and derive physical benefits from dance. We are a hyper local business. Minority owned brick and mortar, neighborhood studio. 💯 community based. I lead the dancers by example and Diana is administration with the goal of excellence. We hold fun get togethers for the teachers and community recitals with the students. We just want to spread joy.

Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
Diana benefits from meditation and Zen practices to keep herself spiritually grounded.

I utilize a website called JW.org as a free resource that keeps me spiritually strong, kindhearted and nice even when it’s extremely tough.
