Today we’d like to introduce you to Storyboard Casting
Hi Storyboard, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
We (Amber Havens and Tish Campbell) met while working on commercial projects together at a Real People talent agency in the San Francisco Bay Area. We had a similar work ethic, professional drive, and a vision to expand our services and regional footprint. We connected quickly and settled easily into a natural flow of keeping each other not only motivated and inspired, but grounded. You learn over time not to miss the opportunity to make good use of well-balanced wonder twin powers! In 2023, the New Year delivered the perfect serendipitous opportunity to jump out of the old and into the new, catapulting us into the realization of our own vision and the creation of Storyboard Casting.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
We started Storyboard Casting at the tail end of the pandemic during the writer’s strike and right before the most recent SAG strike. Although we primarily work in commercial print and video, these hits to the industry definitely affected our momentum. Tightening of budgets and the movement of advertiser’s spending of money on affiliate marketing and influencers, limited our opportunities as a new business. We have 15 years worth of relationships and working history with talent and producers, however, with the current need for everyone to adapt to this ever changing and sometimes challenging environment it’s a day to day learning curve. We’re grateful to be navigating these times with the commercial production community.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Tish Campbell has a 25+ year career at the intersection of business and the creative sector. In addition to casting, which she began in 2009, her professional experience includes jewelry designer, business owner, developer of programs at cultural and higher ed institutions, and executive director of institutional advancement at a major art and design university where she supported the university’s film, TV and gaming festivals, two museums, and academic departments across 40+ degreed disciplines including marketing, digital media, and photography. She thrives on project work, people, and interesting challenges.
Amber Havens is a former theater actor who has been in and around the entertainment business her entire life. Leaning on advice she got at an early age to “do and learn everything possible about all sides of the business”, Amber spent the last thirty years collecting knowledge and experience in multiple facets of entertainment. Now on the production side of things, her casting experience runs the gamut of film and television extras, principals and commercial print and video. She loves being a connector between clients and great talent.
We met at an agency that specializes in Real People. In turn our professional overlap allows us to not only look at a creative deck and understand the aesthetics but our background allows us to go deeper in to the creative team’s vision and understand the stories that the talent need to portray. We are most proud of the relationships we have built with talent and clients as well as our ability to create community amongst fellow creatives in our industry.
Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
We started Storyboard Casting in Valley Village, serving Los Angeles and San Francisco. Amber recently relocated to the Bay Area and Tish is based in the Austin and Atlanta regions. We not only serve southern and northern California but the entire East Coast and areas in between.
