Rising Stars: Meet Sarah Hammel

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarah Hammel.

Sarah Hammel

Hi Sarah, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
For as long as I can remember I have always loved to create and design. Growing up as a young child, I would save all my money just so I could constantly redecorate my room. I moved to Los Angeles in my 20s and trained at one of the most sought-after salons in town and was a celebrity hair colorist for nearly two decades. As a creative, I feel like it is vital for us to have multiple outlets to put our energy into to avoid creative fatigue. In 2020, I decided I needed other outlets, stepped away from doing hair full-time, and started In The Den.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I feel lucky that I have been able to evolve and transition smoothly. Los Angeles has a wonderful network of like-minded people that have shown me so much support.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
In The Den is a lifestyle design studio. Offering apothecary goods, floral design, home styling, plant-forward recipe developer and private cooking services. Specializing in home floral styling accounts & curating bespoke intimate dinners/gatherings from tablescape, rentals, florals, and catering. In The Dens art forward designs are chic and unique.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I love that Los Angeles is filled with so much diversity and people from everywhere; it’s a great way to learn and connect with like-minded individuals.

TRAFFIC! Luckily my hours usually allow me to avoid rush hour traffic. There’s no traffic at 5am on the way to the flower mart!
