Today we’d like to introduce you to Samira Faraj
Hi Samira, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I’ve been reading cups/cards since I was twelve years old. It is a gift that runs in my family (funny enough from both my maternal and my paternal grandmothers). I used to do it at family gatherings and functions. At the end of 2010, I was at a cross roads in my life and decided to try and see if I could do something as a cup reader/tarot reader. So, I started: I made business cards, bought a couple of tarot decks, and my mom got me some beautiful coffee cups. My daughter at the time was in a sorority and she passed out my cards at one of her parties. Little by little I started to get clients and my business grew strictly through word of mouth. I met so many people and went to every event that I was ever asked to go to. Soon my business grew to the point where I needed to formalize it a little more. In 2019, I started my LLC Readings By Samira LLC. I also started my website Readingsbysamira.com that same year. Today, I read cups, tarot cards, oracle cards. I do birthchart reads. I work with crystals; integrating them into my reads for my clients. I have a wide array of reads that I provide for my clients.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It was not a smooth road at all. I had a lot of self doubt. I got stuck in the “how is this going to work, how are people going to know about me” and the very worse one “what if I make a mistake”. Some times when I would go to the festivals, I wouldn’t get a single read. Sometimes when I read at parties, I was treated poorly or people would make fun of me.
I spent years trying to build myself up. The thing that helped me the most was I had read a book by Louise Hay “You Can Heal Your Life” and I was working with affirmations and gratitude. When I am affirming or grateful the doubting voice inside me quiets down. So at the festivals that I didn’t get a single read, I passed out my cards, made friends with the other vendors, networked with various artists/performers. At the parties, well…..I would pick the people that were the rudest and read them first….it never not once failed, I had them so enthralled by the end of their read that I most of the time got hugs, tears, or laughter. I still to this day keep my gratitude journal and I still work with affirmations on a daily basis.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I read coffee cups using a special turkish coffee. I read tarot cards, oracle cards and I can also do reads with my tarot dice. In addition, I have incorporated birthchart reads which use your sun, rising, and moon sign to make the reads more personal.
I’ve always loved astrology, the tarot and mysticism. I’m extremely well read and have a passion to empower people. When I read someone, using their zodiac sign, I can personalize their read in a way other people can not.
My mission is to help my clients better understand themselves by understanding the questions that brought them to me and how their choices can influence their future. I am most proud of the fact that I genuinely love people and I want to enrich someone’s knowledge about themself. That way in the future, they can make good choices that will empower, enrich or enhance their lives. Most people who get read by me often discover something about themself they didn’t know before.
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
Honestly, I wish I could teach a class about the horrors of self doubt and how much that can paralyze your life. For someone who is starting out my advice would be the following:
Quiet your inner critic-by using meditation, affirmations or gratitude.
Don’t disclose any ideas about your business, or methods until you are established.
Research other people that are in the same field that you want to be in and see what they are doing and how you can make a diffence.
I wish I would have had more self confidence in myself. I am very hard on myself and being almost sixty it is a bad habit that I work on every day in my life. I wish I wasn’t afraid of making the wrong choice or of making a mistake. Now I know that we grow and learn from our challenges and our mistakes and that’s what makes our lives unique and interesting.
