Today we’d like to introduce you to Sam Yebri.
Sam, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I am an attorney, nonprofit leader, business owner, activist, former City Commissioner, and now LA City Council candidate (to represent the 5th District) fighting for a better Los Angeles for everyone. My love for Los Angeles began as a one-year-old when my parents and I immigrated to Los Angeles as refugees from Iran. Local public schools launched me to Yale University, USC Law School, and a federal clerkship. Twelve years ago, I started a law firm in Century City devoted to fighting for workers and small businesses. Outside of the office, I am deeply invested in our local community, serving on the boards of Bet Tzedek Legal Services, special needs housing provider ETTA, the Jewish Community Foundation, the Anti-Defamation League, and several other organizations. I have also served Los Angeles as a Civil Service Commissioner overseeing the City’s Personnel Department, on our City’s Gun Violence Prevention Task Force, and on the board of the Friends of Westwood Library.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
As a father of four young kids, my wife and I have watched Los Angeles decline, with an explosion of homelessness, rising rents, and an increase in gun violence and crime.
I am running for LA City Council because Los Angeles is heading in the wrong direction and needs new leadership.
For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about your campaign, what you do and what you are working towards?
From building affordable housing for adults with special needs to fighting for tenants and vulnerable Angelenos, I am a coalition-builder who gets things done. I have developed comprehensive, common sense policy plans to tackle our homelessness crisis with urgency and compassion and to keep our neighborhoods vibrant and safe from rising crime.
By refusing contributions from special interests, I am running a grassroots campaign fueled by residents in the 5th District rather than the special interests that finance career politicians. Please visit my website (www.SamForLA.com) to learn more about my background, my detailed policy ideas, and my broad-based political, labor, and business support, including significant endorsements from Congressman Henry Waxman, County Supervisor Holly Mitchell, Former Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, and Los Angeles Firefighters and First Responders.
Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
