Rising Stars: Meet Rolando Aqui

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rolando Aqui.

Hi Rolando, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
So where it all started with me, I was a dancer that turned into a hairstylist after having an injury that lasted 2 years. I partially ripped my Achilles. I was getting into some trouble with a drug selling & an addiction to cocaine, I had to change up my life and my dad was sick with cancer and had to take the responsibility of taking him to doctor appointments, etc. my cousin actually pushed me and said to me you love style, and your hair is always so colorful and stylish, maybe you should go to school for hair. So with trouble, I was in I needed to straighten out my life for me and my family. I took myself to register and this is where I am at now. I felt I started out so late that I needed to catch up to all the greats, so what I did was lots of networking, taking extra classes to catch up. From there it was a go go go from fashion weeks to set life to working at red carpet events etc.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It was never a smooth road always have ups and downs are you good enough? can you create something that you’re esthetically pleased with? I feel as an artist you can be very sensitive and always question your work. I am finally at the place where I am comfortable with my art.

I specialize in hair, editorial, red carpet, and in salon work. That I take my art always above and beyond. I am most proud of my accomplishments for one I am with the Biolage Team.

How do you think about happiness?
Working on my car it brings me peace, it’s a little something I keep in my heart for my father. He was an automotive mechanic for over 30 years.
