Rising Stars: Meet Pluto Outerspace of New York

Today we’d like to introduce you to Pluto Outerspace

Hi Pluto, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
The Early Days-

What got me started in music, art, and entertainment was my desire to create. I’ve always found it easy to express myself through art and music. Music has always been a huge part of my life. I can remember being young as 4 years old watching television and seeing the music videos of artist. I remember hearing the radio play new music. I was dancing and singing along to my favorite songs. At those times, I was just on the sidelines as a listener but I always felt compelled to create.

My dad once, pursued music in his youth, with his group of friends. So I was always around it. He was coming up around the time the legendary artist “Rakim” was at the height of hip hop in the late 80’s and early 90’s. We all hail from the same place, A town called Wyandanch in Long Island, New York.

Around 9 years old, in 2004 I decided that I would start writing and composing music. I had no idea where to start, no knowledge truly of how anything worked but I was determined! I would write small rhymes in my composition notebook and draw out some of my lyrics in sketches, with dreams of recording music.

My older cousin, at that time was already making music and collaborating with local artist around the area. I was more of a “hype man” for him that provided some insight on how I felt about his skills. I would always go to the recording studio with him watch him record and critique things at his request. He had already had been to 106 and Park as a teen.

2006 – 2009

Fast forward some years passed, its 2006 at the time I’m around 11 years of age and I had formed my own rap group with some of my friends from school. We would freestyle at the lunch table while criticizing each other’s skills. A kid new to my neighborhood joined the school, he also had been already making music because of his uncles influence. We instantly connected and became best friends, and he took me to a recording studio in his old neighborhood of Freeport. There I recorded my first real song alongside him.

I didn’t like my voice at first but playing the song for people in school helped me build confidence. We received alot of positive and negative criticism but it was good for us. I played the song for my cousin & he liked it.

Fast forward A year later in 2007, my best friend moves away Upstate. Things slow down a bit music wise for me. I’m focused on school and not too much on music. I’m still hanging around my cousin, going to the studio supporting him and one day he actually lets me get on one of his songs. This indicated to me that he heard the talent I possessed and decided to take me seriously. I’m starting to gain attention around the neighborhood because of the track I did with my cousin and people started to take me serious as well. That’s when I became the youngest member of my cousin’s hip hop group.

High School-

So I graduate middle school in 2009 and then my life changes. I’m 13 My dad decides to move us out of our hometown A few towns away in the Copiague/ Amityville area.. I’m suddenly in a fresh new town, not knowing mostly anyone but I see some familiar faces from home that had moved too. Music is slow but I’m still linking up with my cousin from time to time supporting his work and featuring on his projects here and there. My first year in the new school is going good. I start to meet new friends, and reacquaint with the familiar faces from home.

By my sophomore year I formed a collective group of kids that had similar interest as me (fashion, art, music, & video games). We were all determined to make our mark in life, all on different paths but connected through our passions. We were so young and desperate to create at one point as kids. Early on I link up with this kid from the area who engineers and produces beats. I would drop these tracks under the name “Jayy Pluto” on YouTube.

None of us had any pro equipment like a microphone so we would have to record audio off our phone’s voice notes in a closet and edit it on the computer with the beats he produced. We started getting better, the passion started to grow, and we had some good times. As time goes on I’m still going to the real recording studio with my cousin and then I get acquainted with is producer/ engineer and we form a connection. I start to go on my own here and there and work on some freestyles alone.

2013 – 2015

(Fast forward) It’s 2013, my graduating year from high school. Im 18 establishing myself as A solo artist. I took out “Jayy” off my name and drop my first track titled “Fast Kash” on Soundcloud under the name “Pluto”. Moving forward, I get tons of love/ positive reviews from everyone including my best friend that had moved away early in middle school. He and everyone encouraged me to produce a real mixtape.

So now i’m locked in with an actual real engineer now and takin music more serious as something I want to pursue as a career. I link back up with my old buddy and we recreate our rap group from middle school. All while at the time, i’m still apart of my cousin’s group too. My cousin was working with the legend “DJ Lazy K”. Formally based in New York, now relocated in California. Together they dropped a slew of mixtapes that I had the opportunity to feature on.

Its year 2014 and i’m collaborating with all these artist that i’m connected to through my cousin’s group. Also my reunited pal and I are working too. The Collaborations and my solo work leads up to the creation of my 1st mixtape, dubbed “Area 51”. I released this on Soundcloud and gained some traction in the local music scene on Long Island and Upstate where my buddy was based.

2015 was the birth of my first born child, and I felt like it was a fresh start so I reinvented myself from top to bottom. I adapted my name from just “Pluto” to “Pluto Outerspace”. This was me accepting the fact that I had to go higher above anything I’d ever done. With A new child, a new state of mind was born as well. My music was evolving. I dropped some tracks with “Lazy K” on her Live Mixtapes platform called the “Dopemix”.
I’m still pushing “Area 51” independently at the time through Soundcloud, DatPiff, and “Spirilla” platforms. Still searching for improvement and jumping studio to studio looking for better quality. That’s when “N.A.S.A.” was born! “N.A.S.A.” is short for “New Age Space Anthem”. This was the rebirth of “Pluto” into “Pluto Outerspace”. A hard hitting mixtape filled with industry beat freestyles and some original tracks from YouTube producers.

2016 – 2019
2016 “Sorry 4 The Space” mixtape is created, again another mix of classic industry beats & original YouTube production.
sticking to the new format, upping the sound and quality of the work. It’s business as usual, mixed with none stop grinding and networking. Over the next few years, I’m working hard trying to achieve greatness, times are changing and I’m adapting but like everything in life, it’s an uphill battle. It’s a process type of thing with music, where this time I’m meeting and collaborating with a bunch of original producers and trying to learn music as a business.

I was dropping tracks and tapes across the web until eventually again it’s time to reinvent. This time it’s not a name change but more about style and cadence. 2019 hits and the creation of “FlyBoy Astronaut” is revealed. Again I raise the bar locally for not just myself but all the upcoming aspiring artist in my area. I tend to look at myself as a pillar of motivation even if sometimes the energy is not reciprocated but I know my role on this planet is to inspire and lead. With sparks of the future 2019 was a very pivotal year for me and i’m happy for it. The years to come would be awesome for me and I would gain substantially but with highs always comes lows.

2020 – 2024
As I said previously the years to come, I had set myself up for from the past. I had been shaping my skills, enhancing my attributes. 2020 would prove very fruitful. For the first time it wasn’t all about the grind. I was doing what I loved to do freely and having my way. Opportunities were all around and everyone close to me was making moves. It started coming together and my vision was coming to life.
I went on an epic music release and video run, I had music videos done years previous but this time my true vision was in my hands alone. It wasn’t perfect but it was my vision! It was the beginning of an era, I called it “Space Baby”. The road to success was never more clear. Teaming up with producer “JROHM” from Michigan I was able to elevate the sound yet again. The following year 2021, was even better musically. With drops like “Space Baby 2” and “For The Family” diving deeper into the world of “Pluto Outerspace”.
2022 comes along smoothly. My second child is born, I move into my new place, and my family is growing while my dreams prospering. Notability and opportunities are still increasing. Business does not come to a halt I’m doing live shows locally and in NYC. I dropped “Space Baby 3” Which only solidified my presence. This effort along with past ones, gained the attention of grammy nominated, multi platinum producer “Kid Hazel” from 21 Savage’s “Slaughter Gang” imprint. He reached out and expressed his interest in my efforts and said he was willing to work on a EP with me. This EP was titled ‘Pluto Haze” which consist of 3 tracks produced by him and one of the tracks co produced by another grammy nominated, multi platinum producer ” Go Grizzly”.

2023 hits and its full steam ahead, My best friend/ partner at the time is gearing up to do a small tour with Hot 97’s “DJ Drewski”. I was invited to perform some of our collabs. We drop a huge video for one of our older collabs that had a timeless sound. Things are going well so i’m gearing up to drop A new project called “Kinetic” mostly produced by UK producer “Jacasikk” and collective “Ayy Global”. They’ve had tons of major label and artist placements over the past few years.

We do the tour, my partner gets a slot in Drewski’s rotation on live radio for a few weeks with his solo single, but no real mainstream success follows behind it. In life sometimes things don’t always correlate but that’s a risk we all take in this business. High points are sometimes followed by low points in this sport and everything is really a gamble truthfully. There I found myself back at the drawing board. So I take some time off from events and got back to my roots in the studio!

2024 things are a bit slow. I find myself trying to recapture those moments of greatness again.
I’m gearing up for another run so I take myself back to where it all started! During this time it seems like it’s loss after loss.
Friends, family, and associates all seem to lose hope in me ever finding success.

After seeing me reach such heights and then seeing me seemingly take losses, I can understand why some people lose faith. Through it all I decided to not stop and continue on my path. Why should I stop after doing so much work? So once again, JROHM and myself decided to lock in and create the EP “Just Cause Y’all Hated”. Spring of 2024 provided solid foundation of motivation to fuel the fires within that would burn through the summer. What was once thought to be love, turned to hate. Smiles and handshake’s turned to fake but not once did I break. “JCYH” was well received by supporters and the one’s who still believed. The message was heard loud and clear by the one’s who turned.

Things didn’t stop there, A full revamp was in order. This journey has always been spiritual for me in a huge way.
It started out with me finding myself, and then steadily improving to be the best version of me possible. Along the way some potholes in the road, A few flat tires, but I refuse to break down. The winter of 2024 was one of extreme isolation. Through this isolation I was able to captivate the very essence of my spirit and destiny. With the help of “Fredo Beatz” bringing it to life in one of my best bodies of work to date! With every loss comes new blessings. I was approached by sports/ music management company “LA NY Entourage” based in Hollywood, California and signed with them in December 2024. My new relationship with my manager “Austin Beck-Hill” is proof that you can’t give up or lose faith. With hard work, determination, perseverance, and unquestionable faith anything is possible. “Sorry 4 The Space” dropped February 08, 2025 and is out now on all digital streaming platforms!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Obstacles/ challenges I faced were: Long sleepless nights. Loss of friends and family, spending your money on things that don’t ultimately work out. Losing money overall. Not knowing or being able to see your next move ahead of you. more times failing than seeing success. Repetitive situations. Trial and error. Heavy gamble aspect (Investment related) Self funding. Loss of motivation sometimes. Ripoff’s who prey on independent artist. Unsupportive people and doubters. Being or feeling stuck. Carrying all weight on your own. There are a million more things I could say but for the most part that’s really all I can think of.
