Rising Stars: Meet Patrice Lee of Los Angeles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Patrice Lee

Hi Patrice , so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I’ve always been into music, it’s actually really funny how I got started. I use to record my own radio show when I was younger, I think I may have been seven. I remember, I use to record the show piece by piece on a Karaoke machine, I would do the “talk show” portion, I would make different voices playing host then caller then, I would use weird voices to do the commercials in between and lastly the music, LOL. I had sponsors and everything. My parents got a real kick out of listening to me and all the different voices I used.
As I grew older the passion for sounds and harmonies grew with me. I’ve always been intrigued with instrumentation as well as vocalization so, it wasn’t long before I merged them together. Throughout school I was either playing an instrument in the band or literally, anything that had to do with theater which entered me into the Thespian Society. As fate had it, I actually ended up with my own small radio show once I got to college.
I dabbled in the music industry first as a ghostwriter. I knew at that time, direct contact with that industry was not for me.
My first project “Life Itself” was my first attempt at putting an album together on my own. I received some traction from that project but, I believe it was more of me to learn I could in fact do it myself. My second project was a Mixtape/EP “Stand Alone” was (in my head) suppose to be my introduction project. So many things went incredibly wrong with the whole process that I didn’t enjoy it at all. It wasn’t until I teamed up with my now business partner R.C. Smith Jr. that I really felt like things were starting to go as I thought they should. And now, here we are.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It was not smooth at all but through all of struggles, trials and everything I’ve had to do and had to deal with turned into stepping stones. They became lessons instead of stumbling blocks or set backs. I decided to change the perspective and control the narrative. Once I understood and learned how to see everything as an opportunity, my mountains became stages and once I was able to climb to the top, I would be able to tell for the world what’s on the other side of it.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Well, I am Singer/Songwriter Patrice Lee. I’m best known for being a vocalist and what I mean by that is, I sing in four different ranges as well as different languages. I’m most humbled by the fact that people really connect to my sound, I’m told my songs inspires my listeners to change their own perspectives and take control of their own narratives and that, makes me proud. I think what sets me apart from others in my field is, I am part owner of the label I am signed to (4HM Entertainment LLC) and, I am one hundred precent involved with any piece of work I put out to the public, from writing to administration.

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
I would say, put yourself around people that you would invite to your grandmothers home, not just because they may have a big name and or title. There are a lot of people in this industry that do not have your best interest in heart so, surround yourself around people you could see yourself being around personally.
