Rising Stars: Meet Maurice “mobetta” Brown of Brooklyn, NY

Today we’d like to introduce you to Maurice “mobetta” Brown

Hi Maurice “Mobetta”, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I was born in the south side of Chicago a suburb called Harvey, Illinois. I started playing professionally while I was in jr high. My dad used to take me to jazz club and have me sit with the this season Jazz musician. So even at a young of age, I was taking it really seriously Jazz was like another language and I wanted to speak it.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The journey to get to where I’m at has been anything but smooth. There have been missed opportunities and a few people that wanted to exploit the fact that I just love to play. These missed opportunities could’ve been career changing or at least sped up the process, But I wouldn’t change anything about it. If anything it made me work harder & smarter and in general just move with more intent. There are also lots of supporters that looked out for me and believed in what I was trying to do. If not for them I’m not sure I would have been able to weather the storms. To accomplish anything in life you need a strong support system and I’m very grateful for mine.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a Grammy award winning trumpeter producer arranger composer. I love producing for other people I get so much joy out of helping someone make their vision of reality. But nothing makes me happier than to toot my own horn literally. When I’m on stage I feel so alive and in the moment. My specialty is the trumpet. I try to be as clear as possible when I play it and I approach making music on the trumpet from a vocal standpoint. I think that’s what makes my playing stand out. I’m know for making the trumpet speak and I play with a strong, strong sense of melody

We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
I own a studio call MO SOUNDS. It’s located in brooklyn New York .I also film score. I perform and recorded with Anderson Paak, Harry Styles, Bruno Mars, Silk Sonic. Last but not least I’m a third-degree black belt in Taekwondo.
