Today we’d like to introduce you to Mark Todd Osborne.
Hi Mark Todd, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I am a Digital Color Artist with 28 years of experience in feature films, television, and commercials. My journey began as an apprentice editor at New Cinema, but I quickly discovered a passion for color correction. I honed my craft at a major post-production facility in Santa Monica, where I had the privilege of collaborating with some of the industry’s most renowned cinematographers and directors.
Eventually, I branched out on my own, founding MTO Color Studio. Today, I design color for approximately 15 to 20 feature films annually, in addition to numerous television shows and commercials that reach audiences worldwide through major streaming platforms and theaters.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Things have rarely come easy for me, but I believe that’s been a blessing in disguise. It’s taught me to work harder and stay persistent. Over the years, I’ve realized that only a few people genuinely root for your success, while many others seem to throw roadblocks in your path. I’ve learned to navigate around those who doubt or discourage me and to overcome whatever challenges come my way. Whenever someone told me, “You can’t do that,” it only fueled my determination to prove them wrong.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Using digital color correction tools like DaVinci Resolve Studio, I strive to craft a unique “look and feel” that brings the cinematographer’s vision to life—whether it’s for a feature film, television show, or commercial. While I’m technically proficient and have a deep understanding of the digital tools I use, what truly sets me apart is my eye for creating beautiful, compelling images. This sense of aesthetic is what distinguishes my work from others in the field.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
Although I’ve been fortunate to have the support of many people throughout my career—so many that it’s difficult to name them all—one person who stands out is Director Gore Verbinski. He was a strong supporter of my work, particularly when I handled the feature dailies for his films.
