Today we’d like to introduce you to Kathy Katz.

Hi Kathy, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I pivoted through my own “mid-life crisis” (wink) and decided to change professions in 2018, Enrolled in culinary school full time for almost a year. Once my schooling was completed, I reluctantly proceeded to NYC for an amazing internship at DirtCandy NYC, away from home. Thank you to my husband for encouraging me to do this! Best decision ever!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Obviously, we all had struggles during the pandemic; a lot of us who were in group settings or the restaurant industry had to learn how to handle this new normal. I was fortunate enough to keep working privately with my clients, and I am very grateful for all of their referrals.

Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a private chef to many families, and I love to teach. It’s the creative side that you can have all of these ingredients at your fingertips and allow your imagination to take over. Even watching my clients enjoy executing a recipe and then sit and enjoy what they made! It really is so rewarding! My favorite food to make are any of my handmade pastas!

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
Find your passion and how you could turn it into something that is about you, you’re branding and how you are going to market yourself. Culinary groups, friends, family, etc… It’s hard work, but keep at it, and please don’t give up on yourself!
