Rising Stars: Meet Kaitlynn Harold of West Hollywood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kaitlynn Harold.

Hi Kaitlynn, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Music has always been a part of my life. I’ve always been a singer, and over time I enjoyed getting to a beginner level on every instrument I could. Originally from Portland Oregon, at 16 I sang in a cover band, and did that until I turned 20. Around that same time I met some more musicians, and joined an international touring band called the Falling Doves. At 22 I was given the opportunity to go on my first ever tour as a bassist, even though I had never picked up a bass in my life. So I had 2 months to learn 20 songs, and if I had them down well enough, I was in. Lucky enough I did a good job, and have now been touring as a bassist for 3 years. Road life is not for the weak, but it’s a very rewarding life to live.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Starting as a young girl in the music industry, and now being a woman in the music industry has not been an easy ride. Constantly being surrounded by men, it was difficult being underestimated, objectified, and spoken over. In my adult life I have learned to stand my ground, and not waver on my values under pressure. Being on tour as a woman is also a very different experience than being on tour as a man, so having to create space for myself, and having to put my foot down has been necessary. It’s been well worth the resilience:)

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’ve always looked at art as a vessel that carries me through every stage of life, in whatever form it’s needed. In this case, I was needed as a bass player so I channeled my artistic expression into learning how to play bass. Being a bassist has opened up the door for me to start song writing and singing more in the band as well which is one of my favorite forms of expression. The medium will be ever changing, but I will be an artist in everything I do, and in every lifetime.

How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
I’m always open to new projects and opportunities that help me grow and expand my horizons. On top of playing rock in the Falling Doves, I’m also working on some solo projects, and collaborating with R&B artists. To support me, start by supporting the Falling Doves on any/all platforms including streaming, and following my instagram to keep up with future projects @misskatieboo_
