Rising Stars: Meet Kaelani Lujan of Los Angeles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kaelani Lujan

Hi Kaelani, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I grew up in Northern California, surrounded by family and a deep-rooted sense of community. Moving to Southern California for college was a big leap—both exciting and challenging. I studied Apparel Merchandising and Management with a focus on fashion business and marketing. During college, I had the opportunity to work alongside talented stylists and with brands like REVOLVE and FWRD, which gave me invaluable hands-on experience in the fashion industry. Through this work, I initially focused on styling and fashion, but it was during this time that I discovered my growing passion for branding and marketing. I became fascinated with how brands connect with their audiences and the creative strategies behind those connections.

Around this period, I also began sharing snippets of my life and interests on social media, and it quickly evolved into a platform for my creativity. Just before the pandemic, I made a commitment to post more intentionally, and soon I found myself partnering with brands that aligned with my values. This journey has pushed me to step out of my comfort zone and challenge myself in ways I hadn’t imagined. I continue to grow, create, and learn every day, always exploring new ways to expand my passions and skills.

Since I was young, I’ve always been a romantic at heart, drawn to finding beauty in life’s little things—whether it’s a warm morning coffee, a cozy corner of a room, or the simple joy of spending time with loved ones. My grandparents, who have been incredibly influential in my life, instilled in me the value of these moments and the importance of family, joy, time, and happiness. Growing up in a multicultural family, with both Guamanian and Filipino heritage, has shaped who I am today. I’m lucky to have been immersed in both cultures—their rich traditions and incredible food sparked my love for exploring diverse cuisines and inspired my deep respect for culture and family.

Coming from a smaller town, I always dreamed of living in a big city. I used to sneak behind the couch as a little girl to catch scenes of *Sex and the City*, which painted this glamorous picture of independent city life that I was drawn to. Fast forward to now, and I’m proud to say I made that dream come true by living in both LA and NYC. Living in these cities taught me so much about resilience, independence, and self-expression in ways my younger self would have loved.

My parents have also been a huge inspiration in my life. They had me young—my mom was 17, and my dad was 19—and their relationship has been a testament to the strength of love, loyalty, and resilience. Watching them grow together through every phase of life has shaped my own ideas about partnership, and I feel so lucky to have found a relationship that echoes that same strength and commitment. My two younger sisters, who are 12 and 16 years younger than me, are also a huge part of my life. I had the privilege of helping raise them, which created a strong bond between us. They’ve taught me so much about patience, joy, and the importance of family, and I honestly can’t imagine my life without them.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Moving to bigger cities like LA and NYC wasn’t as much of a shock as I’d expected, but the real challenges came with building my career, navigating relationships, and discovering who I am. I’m a firm believer that everything happens for a reason and for our greatest good, which helps keep me grounded when things get tough.

I’ve had countless moments where I questioned if I was making the right choices or if I was capable of building the life I dreamed of as a kid—and I still do. Imposter syndrome is something I continue to battle, but every day I remind myself why I’m on this journey and push through.

In college, I was constantly balancing my studies with gaining experience in the fashion industry and figuring out how to turn my passions into a career. When I began sharing my life on social media, I had to overcome insecurities and fears of judgment—something I still work on. Consistently putting myself out there takes courage, and while I love connecting with others, being vulnerable in such a public way isn’t always easy.

One of my biggest challenges came a few years ago when I was unexpectedly laid off from my dream job. It was a role I’d aspired to for years, working for a company whose founders had been my role models since middle school, back when Instagram first started. Every day felt surreal—I was part of a vision I believed in, inspired by the people around me. But when I was let go, it happened right after moving from LA to NYC, and the sudden loss shook my confidence and made me question my worth. That rejection stung, but I’ve come to see it as a redirection. Since then, I’ve worked hard to rebuild my confidence and remember that one setback doesn’t define my path. I’m still young, and I trust that everything will work out as it should.

As much as I love the path I’m on, there have been many moments of self-doubt and burnout. Even though I’m a smaller creator, building a social media presence takes constant effort—it’s exciting but can also be overwhelming and exhausting. These challenges, though, have made me grow in ways I never could have predicted. I’ve learned resilience, trust in myself, and how to lean on family and friends when things get rough. The ups and downs have truly shaped me, and I’m grateful for every lesson learned along the way.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
In my work, I’m passionate about crafting brand identities and creating authentic connections through social media. My background is in Apparel Merchandising and Management with a focus on fashion business and marketing, which provided me with a strong foundation in understanding both the creative and strategic sides of branding. I specialize in Influencer Marketing and Social Media, where I’m constantly working to stay ahead of trends, build meaningful partnerships, and bring brands to life in ways that resonate with their audience.

What I’m most known for is my dedication to creating genuine, visually captivating content that feels personal and relatable. I’ve been building my own social media presence over the years, focusing on sharing the things I love—beauty, lifestyle, and everyday moments—and partnering with brands that align with my values. I think people resonate with my content because it’s authentic; I put thought into every partnership and am committed to staying true to my style and voice.

One of the things I’m most proud of is my journey from a small-town girl with a love for aesthetics to where I am today, connecting with an engaged community and working with brands I used to dream about. Being a smaller creator has its challenges, but it has taught me the importance of resilience, persistence, and the power of even a smaller but meaningful impact.

What sets me apart is my unique blend of personal and cultural influences and my journey of self-discovery through social media. Growing up Guamanian and Filipino, I’ve always been inspired by rich traditions, family values, and the importance of meaningful connections—elements that I try to bring into my work. I’m passionate about finding beauty in the little things and creating content that feels warm, approachable, and elevated.

I’m proud of the community I’ve built, my ability to step out of my comfort zone daily, and my focus on curating content that not only showcases brands but tells a story. For me, it’s about creating an experience that brings people together and inspires them, and I’m excited to keep pushing myself and seeing where this journey takes me.

Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
I’m a huge fan of Google Calendar—anyone who knows me well knows I’m obsessed with it. I even try to convert my friends into GCal fans, and I’ve successfully convinced a few! I’m a bit Type A and have a touch of OCD, so staying organized is essential to me. Google Calendar and the Apple Reminders app on my iPhone are my go-tos for staying on track and tackling what I need to do each day. These apps keep me grounded and help me manage my time efficiently.

For podcasts, I love Bestie Chats with Soph by Sophia Panella. She’s always spreading positivity, body acceptance, and discusses relevant topics that resonate with me. I love putting on her episodes during my hot girl walks because it feels like I’m on the phone with a friend. Sophia has a unique talent for making her listeners feel seen and empowered, which always gives me a confidence boost.

As for books, Journey to the Heart by Melody Beattie is a favorite. It’s a daily meditation book filled with reflections and stories that inspire me to live with more intention and gratitude. Reading it every day helps me stay grounded and look at life with a positive lens.

I’m also a big fan of journaling. I love to reflect and keep a record of my journey. It’s incredibly healing, and revisiting past entries reminds me of how much I’ve grown. For me, journaling is about self-discovery, staying connected to my goals, and honoring my progress over time.
