Rising Stars: Meet Justin Williams of Brooklyn, Ny

Today we’d like to introduce you to Justin Williams.

Hi Justin, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I was born and raised in Buffalo,Ny. I’ve been living there for 15 years and moved to Louisville,Ky where i consider my second home. I was in high school and i knew i wanted to pursue fashion and i did whatever i could to make the move to NYC to pursue my fashion career. By this time I taught myself how to sew. But the main thing i needed to learn was technique. I moved to New York and got my degree for fashion design and hit the ground running working in retail. 2019 is when I first started my brand and elevating as the years go on.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It was very bumpy to say the least. Some of the struggles include imposter syndrome. Confidence was a forever battle going from Buffalo all the way to NYC. Fighting the music of family constantly only because they didn’t understand what exactly i was doing or what exactly the concept of fashion truly is. Creator’s block as well. A lot of people don’t come out of that.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a designer/artist and my medium is clothing. I specialize in multi-purpose pieces. I have these pants called the “Joy” Pant. It’s a multi-use pant. It has a removable 2 piece kilt with silhouette changing zippers where you can turn the pant from a straight leg to a flare and a wide-leg pant. My mind sets me apart from other. I can guarantee no one is thinking like me creatively. My brain ‘takes it there’ and then goes further. I apply that same thought process to any and every medium i use.
