Today we’d like to introduce you to Jasmine Shannon-Miggins.
Hi Jasmine, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Born and raised in Los Angeles, CA. I started my dance journey at Lula Washington Dance Theatre at the original Pico & La Brea studio where dance became a part of everyday life and later graduated from the program in 2011 at the new home studio on Crenshaw & Coliseum. In 2011, I began attending College at Oregon State University where I was a part of the OSU Dance team for 4 seasons. My Junior and Senior years I was captain and once I graduated in 2015, I became an assistant dance coach while also starting my first pro dance job on the Portland Trailblazers Dance Team as a Blazer Dancer. After 3 seasons, I moved back to LA to pursue dance in the commercial industry and have been able to work with and meet some of the best choreographers and movers in the game. Now that I’ve been back in LA, I have had to opportunity to dance on some of the biggest stages with such amazing artists and have hopes to continue my journey as a professional dancer and choreographer.
I am a mom, wife & also run my own social media management and web design company that I started in 2019.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I think going through life understanding there will always be obstacles is key. Even when you do encounter those bumps, it’s about how you overcome the struggle & how to still handle business through those struggles.
In my new phase of life as a wife and mom, I continue to understand balance and the importance of “your village”. If it weren’t for my husband, Dillon, my mom & the rest of our village supporting my dreams & drive, I wouldn’t be where I am today.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
My business name is Web Social Management & I specialize in social media management, content creation & web design! I received my B.S. in Digital Communication Arts with a specialty in media management. After college, I noticed how important it is to have my company help small businesses have a digital presence at an affordable price!
Being able to run my own business & be a pro dancer is definitely a part of my dream! Utilizing my degree & years of dance training is rewarding for me & I’m proud of that. Dancing for Diddy, Kanye West, Coi Leray & more are such a pivotal moments for me and it’s truly a blessing to work with & experience such elevated artistry.
I think something that sets me apart from others is my work ethic and working well with others. Being adaptable & professional is important.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
I think that the right mentors for you will come as long as you are yourself! Never try to be someone you’re not or else everything you attract won’t be genuine. Be the best version of you and always practice self-work & everything will fall into place.
Networking is important and I think whatever you decide to do, you have to always do research and always stay in the now of the changes of your industry! Keep yourself educated in your craft & never get comfortable
