Rising Stars: Meet Jamal Roland of Riverside, CA

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jamal Roland.

Hi Jamal, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I got started from a place a lot of people can relate to, I knew I wanted more, but I didn’t have a clear roadmap on how to get there.

Growing up, I was always around clothes and presentation. My family made sure we were put together wherever we went, and Sundays were a big thing—everyone dressed their best for church. That stuck with me early. It wasn’t just about looking good, it was about carrying yourself a certain way and having pride in how you show up.

As I got older, life brought pressure: real situations, expectations, and that internal feeling of knowing I couldn’t stay where I was. At some point, I made the decision to stop looking at pressure as something negative and start using it as fuel.

That shift in mindset is really what led to Roland Riches.

I didn’t come into it with a big team or a perfect plan. It was a lot of learning as I went, figuring out design, branding, and how to actually bring an idea to life. There were definitely moments where things didn’t work or I questioned if I was moving in the right direction, but I stayed consistent because I believed in what it stood for.

For me, Roland Riches is bigger than clothing. It represents resilience. Being able to take whatever situation you’re in and still push forward, still build, still elevate. That message comes from real experience, not just an idea.

Over time, that consistency started to show. I grew, the brand grew, and things became more intentional. I got clearer on the vision and more focused on creating pieces that actually mean something to people, not just something that looks good.

Where I’m at now is really just the result of staying committed, even when progress felt slow or uncertain. And honestly, I still see myself at the beginning. I’m building something long-term—something people can connect with, feel, and carry with them when they wear it.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Not at all. It’s been far from smooth.

There was a point where I had just left my job, and I was doing Uber Eats just to gather enough money to fund my first launch. Everything I’ve built with Roland Riches has been self-funded: no business loans, no investors just me putting in the work and betting on myself.

Around that same time, I had just become a father. My daughter was born, and that changed everything for me. I still had responsibilities, and we made the decision for my wife to stay home with our daughter, which meant even more pressure financially and mentally.

So I was balancing all of that trying to provide, trying to build a brand from the ground up, and still figuring things out in real time.

It wasn’t perfect. It wasn’t easy. There were moments where things felt uncertain, and progress felt slow. But I focused on doing what I could with what I had, every single day.

That’s really where my mindset was built. I didn’t wait for ideal conditions I just kept going, even when things were uncomfortable.

Looking back, those moments are what shaped both me and the brand. Roland Riches stands on resilience, and that didn’t come from theory it came from living through those situations and choosing to keep building anyway.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m the founder of Roland Riches, a brand built around resilience, mindset, and elevation. At the core, I create clothing, but what I really focus on is creating pieces that carry meaning.

I specialize in building designs and collections that reflect real experiences: pressure, growth, discipline, and vision. Every piece is intentional. It’s not just about how it looks, it’s about how it makes you feel when you wear it. The goal is for people to feel like they’re stepping into a stronger version of themselves.

What I’ve become known for, especially as I continue to grow, is that message—turning pressure into purpose and creating something people can connect to on a deeper level. It’s not fast fashion, it’s not just trends, it’s something you can wear that actually represents where you’re going in life.

What I’m most proud of is building everything from the ground up on my own. From funding the first launch myself to developing the vision step by step, it’s all been intentional. But beyond that, I’m proud that people are starting to connect with the message. When someone wears Roland Riches and feels more confident, more focused, or more motivated that means more to me than anything.

What sets me apart is the foundation behind it. This brand didn’t come from just wanting to sell clothes, it came from real-life pressure, responsibility, and growth. So everything I create comes from a real place. I’m not just designing for style, I’m designing with purpose.

And I’m still building. This is just the beginning of something bigger.

Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
If there’s one thing I’d want people to take away, it’s that where you start doesn’t define where you finish.

Everything I’m building is rooted in a mindset. The name “RICHES” itself is an acronym—it stands for Resilient Individuals Create Happiness, Elevation, and Success. That’s the foundation of the brand and the way I try to live my life.

To me, being “rich” isn’t just about money. It’s about growth, discipline, peace of mind, and becoming the best version of yourself especially when things aren’t easy.

So whether someone is building something, going through a tough time, or just trying to level up in life, I want them to know that they’re capable of more than they think. Stay consistent, stay focused, and don’t let your current situation limit your vision.

That’s what Roland Riches represents and we’re just getting started.
