Rising Stars: Meet Georgie Carlos of Los Angeles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Georgie Carlos

Georgie, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’ve always been fascinated by movies, TV, and magazines. As a kid, I would spend hours flipping through issues of Vanity Fair, captivated by the stunning cast photos and celebrity portraits. My love for photography began early—I started taking classes in junior high. In high school, I even worked at the antique vintage photo shop at Six Flags. Funny enough, that experience still shapes how I pose and frame group photos today.

Despite this passion, I never considered photography a viable career path. Instead, I ventured into the corporate side of the entertainment industry, hoping to stay close to the creativity I loved. But the corporate world lacked the fulfillment I craved. After experiencing continuous layoffs, I found myself questioning my path. During one of those periods of unemployment, I decided to pick up my camera again.

When a friend asked me to take her family photos, I happily agreed. She posted them on social media, and to my surprise, others started reaching out for portraits. In a way, photography came to me.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Not at all! When I first started, I had no money for equipment, so I actually got my first camera on a payment plan through QVC, of all places—lol! Things took off very quickly, which I know might sound surprising, and don’t get me wrong—I’m forever grateful. But when you’re not prepared for such rapid growth, finding your way while running your own business can be overwhelming. Learning to be my own IT person and trying to afford a fast computer to handle my photo files and editing was another hurdle I had to overcome early on. I quickly realized how much I’d taken the IT department for granted when I worked in the corporate world. And even though working in corporate wasn’t my dream, I’m grateful for it because I learned business systems, workflows, and organization that I could implement into my own business.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a portrait photographer, and my world revolves around capturing people’s stories. I specialize in photographing people—from destination weddings to branding sessions, family portraits, and headshots. Growing up, I was that kid who spent more time flipping through magazines and watching TV than playing outside. I was mesmerized by how photographers and filmmakers captured raw emotions and told stories in a single frame.

That early fascination has shaped my approach to photography. I’m known for helping my clients feel comfortable in front of the camera, guiding them through poses that bring out their most flattering and authentic selves. My goal is to create a space where people can relax, let their guard down, and reveal a glimpse of who they really are.

I’m most proud when clients see their photos and feel genuinely seen. It’s amazing to help someone discover a side of themselves they may not have noticed.

What are your plans for the future?
I’m looking forward to doing more personal and corporate branding sessions, and I can’t wait to take on more destination weddings—I’m actually obsessed with landscape photography, so they bring together the best of both worlds. And, secretly… I’ve been dreaming about directing a music video. But I guess it’s not so secret anymore—haha!
