Today we’d like to introduce you to Evelina Samuelsson.
Hi Evelina, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My adventure in California has been a delightful rollercoaster ride that has allowed me to embrace life in a new way. After living and studying abroad in Italy, Singapore, London, Amsterdam, Copenhagen, and Stockholm, I finally touched down in the Golden State, Los Angeles with a work visa tied to a big tech company.
My journey began as the stereotypical ‘good girl’ who always tried to do everything in a perfect way. I dove headfirst into a bustling career in tech while maintaining an intense workout regimen and late-night socializing in bars. My pursuit of perfection and an obsession with healthy eating and living had me living at an extreme pace, claiming that my meditation was done while sprinting seven miles on a treadmill. Let’s be honest, that wasn’t meditation; it was sheer madness!
Then, in 2019, everything changed when I stepped into my first sound bath. The experience was nothing short of electrifying, a sensation of soaring high while being firmly grounded at the same time. It was a cool blend of calm and clarity, and I’d like to think it was the official start of my grand awakening.
From that day forward, I threw myself into a quest for self-discovery, personal growth, and holistic well-being. I immersed myself in personal development, healing modalities, training programs, and certifications. Today, I’m a certified sound healer, a reiki practitioner, and a holistic health coach with a strong focus on gut health.
My approach to well-being is a vibrant symphony that engages all the senses. I firmly believe that happiness and health are reached only when we are mindful and look at them all; from what we eat to what we hear, how we move our bodies, what we see, and even what we smell. Every day is a colorful adventure, and we can create our own joy with small incremental steps.
Community is also a vital part of my life, and I’m on a mission to bring people together. Whether it’s through my sound baths, book circles, or my latest endeavor – hosting delicious dinners that are also mindful and interactive – I’m all about creating connections.
With that drive in addition, I also host retreats at my desert house in Joshua Tree. I am absolutely fascinated by the magic in Joshua Tree and the beautiful, healing desert landscape, and I love to welcome people to explore this oasis with me. During these retreats, we practice everything that I am all about; good food, sound baths and meditations, deep conversations, hikes, nature, and deep connections.
It’s an uplifting experience where people come together to not only connect with themselves but also with others, forging beautiful bonds in the process.
Los Angeles and California has been the canvas for my vivid and uplifting journey. It’s a place where I’ve (re)discovered the essence of joy, health and unleashed my vibrant spirit. My life is now a celebration of love, well-being, and connection, and I’m thrilled to continue connecting with like-minded people, help heal, and bring new insights and inspiration to people and the community.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I would say balancing the roles of a coach and healer while navigating my own human struggles has been an intricate dance. It required me to be both a source of support and vulnerability. It was during these times of shared experiences and authenticity that I formed deeper connections with my clients and community.
I also think I’m not just speaking for myself when I say that the years of the pandemic was a big struggle. But they were also game-changing with some found silver linings. It forced me to slow down and really tap into myself and my senses. It showed me the strength of human connection, the joy of adaptability, and the beauty of embracing one’s authentic self. As the world continues to change, I look back at these experiences with gratitude for the lessons learned and the joy that have defined my journey.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
My handle on social media is Sensational Spoons. As mentioned, I believe health and wellness is approached through tapping into all our senses. Joy and wellness is reached with small improvements, one spoon at a time. I am also a big smoothie bowl fanatic, which would explain my brand (haha), and people that follow me on social media always comment about my colorful and innovative smoothie bowls. So, I guess I am all about Smoothie bowls and sound bowls 🙂
Under the umbrella of Sensational spoons, I offer sound healing and holistic health coaching.
On the sound healing side, I offer both private and group sessions. Sound healing is a great addition to someone’s healing practice, kind of like acupuncture or massage. The sound frequencies work on the body and can help heal both physical injuries, pain, and gut health. But it is also a great spiritual and relaxing practice that can be extremely powerful to share amongst friends or family. I have done both family sound baths, bachelorette parties, and birthday celebrations. I have done a couple of baby showers and a sound bath for a newborn. Side note: babies seem to love sound baths, both in the belly and outside.
With my health coaching, I am offering a 3 or 6 months program where we focus on a holistic approach to health and wellness. Many people come to me due to gut-related issues or when they just want to ‘shape up’ their health regimen. A holistic health coach is a little bit like a combined therapist/nutritionist/career coach/spiritual guide – all in one. We work out of the client’s main goal and reach our results through nutrition, supplements, movements, mindfulness practices, and coaching sessions.
As part of my work as a sound healer and health coach, I do also host retreats and dinners.
These are both events where we really apply my beliefs about health, self-discovery and mindfulness while coming together as a group and building community. It is beautiful to witness what happens when people work on themselves while connecting with others. The dinners are hosted all around Los Angeles, mainly on the West side where I live. The retreats are located in my desert house in Joshua Tree at the moment, but I wish to extend to other locations as well.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
Trust yourself and your intuition.
