Today we’d like to introduce you to Christy Nguyen.
Hi Christy, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
I started out filming recipe videos during Covid like many new content creators. Everyone was on lockdown, so people turned to social media for entertainment, cooking videos, and finding ways to get through the pandemic. I have always enjoyed cooking and with the encouragement from friends and family, I started filming easy recipes and started sharing them on Instagram and TikTok. I gave myself a set time to hit the ground running, and if things didn’t work out, I wouldn’t pursue being a content creator. Things happened pretty fast, and within 10 days, I grew a following of 10k followers on TikTok, which gave me the motivation to continue posting recipes. I continued create recipe videos and worked 7 days a week, whether it was filming, editing, or recipe research for the first 90 days. Once I reached my own personal goals, I was able to slow down and create content on my own schedule.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road, but it has been rewarding as with any goals you set for yourself. What I didn’t realize before becoming a content creator is how much time you spend on social media and the ups and downs that come with it. It’s also one of those jobs that don’t have a 9-5 schedule. The more time you put in, the more you will get out of it, so you constantly feel like you need to do more. The upside is that you can have great opportunities, such as monetizing on your platform, working with amazing brands, and networking with other creators.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Aside from being a content creator, I am a mom of 3. I also work a full-time job that I’ve been at for over 20 years. I’ve managed to balance all 3 roles and feel so fortunate to be able to have the opportunities that have come my way.
I think what sets me aside from others is that I am very persistent and determined. If there is something I want something, I will not give up until I’ve exhausted every possible option.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
My advice is to keep trying! If you want to become a content creator, keep creating content that you feel good about. It will not always give you the results you hope for most of the time, especially when you start out. But all it takes is for one viral video to get you motivated and anything can happen from there. There is no formula to be a successful content creator. It’s a combination of hard work, persistence, timing, and some luck!
