Rising Stars: Meet Brian Hoff of Rancho Mirage

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brian Hoff.

Hi Brian , we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I grew up in the mountains of Northern California and I think it is where I found my greatest inspiration.
I was lucky to work for HBO in 1994 on the Alan Alda Movie “White Mile” that was being filmed in my local town. I went on to work in Hollywood on various movie sets.
I ended up working Paul Leder who was an independent filmmaker and his daughter Mimi Leder who became the first to direct a DreamWorks movie. I went on to work behind the camera over the years for multiple studios.
In 2004 I wrote my first screenplay but had been writing over the years. I gained a lot of experience working on movies sets on how to write the perfect screenplay. I also had a visualized publishing my own books, but things like self publishing with Amazon didn’t exist at the time.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has been a rough road with many highs and lows, but I do believe that I’m still pursuing the books because a part of me has the determination to stay with it.
I think you have to have a passion for something that you could work on it for more than 20 years and never grow tired of it. I first began to work on my children’s book because of my dog “Cosmo” in 2001 when I noticed, he was spying on the neighbors house, and I began to nickname him a spy agent called “00K9” roughly 25 years ago!
I created my first children’s book series based on my comedy parody character “00K9” ( pronounce Double Oh K 9) and was successful in self publishing it in 2014 on Amazon. I was actually looking for opportunities everywhere I could find them and I think you have to be doing that when you believe in something.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
It’s very with Studios we create children’s book series as well as original collector’s toys and games.
I currently have two children’s book series that are centered around the same animal human city of Furrywood.
The books are filled with valuable life lessons as well as action adventure for both boys and girls to enjoy.

I think I would have to say that I am well known for my character agent “00K9” because of the book signings and benefits that I’ve done for the local Palm Springs police canine unit as well as the local animal shelter. I did my first book signing in 2014. Over the years, I hosted book signings and benefits in it around the community. I have been featured in local papers as well as Variety magazine, and the Hollywood Reporter .
My hope is that the readers will come away laughing and having enjoyed the experience reading the stories, immersing themselves in the humor, all the fun animal puns and hopefully learn a valuable life lesson!

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
Like many people I use social media such as Facebook Instagram, YouTube and X to share my books, toys and merchandise and also learn about other people’s books. I enjoy reading other people’s books and learning about independent authors around the world as well as well-known published authors.
I also go to church on Sunday morning, and I find it to be a very meditative time and reflective.
