Rising Stars: Meet Bin He of Los Angeles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bin He

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My name is Bin He. I am a film producer, screenwriter, director, and cinematographer. I am from China. I attended the Beijing Film Academy, majoring in screenwriting in the Department of Literature. So, my first major was screenwriting. My teacher was Feng Mei, an award-winning writer at the Cannes Film Festival, Golden Horse Film Festival, Tokyo International Film Festival, Asian Film Awards, and Beijing International Film Festival.
After graduating, I founded a media company, Dream Team Media Inc.. I produced China’s first film and television professional social platform and created scripts for thirty film and television production companies. Later, I pursued a Bachelor’s degree in Film and Television Production at California State University.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
When I first arrived in Los Angeles, I could only sleep for four hours a day and had no holidays. This lifestyle lasted for five or six years. Although I had already graduated with a degree in English from a foreign language college before coming to the United States, there was so much to learn in this completely new environment.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
In the first few years after I arrived in Los Angeles, I invested a significant amount of money in purchasing Arri and Red cameras, Arri and Zeiss lenses, as well as various professional lighting and sound equipment. I taught myself helicopter aerial filming, operated a 40-pound large drone for aerial shots, and carried out ground and underwater filming in extreme environments. There are only about 10 people in the world capable of operating a 40-pound large drone, which typically requires a team of three to collaborate. However, I was able to complete all the work on my own.
As a professional producer, I deeply understand the importance of budgeting. A large portion of a crew’s time and resources is devoted to the camera department, lighting, and equipment, especially when dealing with certain critical technologies. To prepare for making large-scale films, I immersed myself in studying various equipment and technologies. During this period, I also met many filmmakers. Due to my comprehensive understanding of equipment and technology, I directly or indirectly helped over 600 companies and teams complete their filming tasks.
I am also very pleased to see that some of the projects I participated in producing have won significant film festival awards. These include Caminante, Caminante: La Leyenda del Huay Chivo directed by Luis Quijano, Feté, and Badsheet, co-directed by Luis Quijano and Andrii Lantukh, and Wishful Thinking directed by Rodrigo Carvalhedo. While helping with these projects, I also got to know almost all of the studio managers in Los Angeles, and they fully support all the projects I am involved in.
I am also very honored to have been invited to be a judge for the Hollywood AI Festival and the producer of related programs. The website for this festival is hollywoodaifest.com. I sincerely hope to assist more and more filmmakers.

What were you like growing up?
I was a very curious and energetic child. I always loved exploring new things and constantly asked questions, especially about how things worked. I spent a lot of time outdoors, playing with friends, building forts, and exploring the neighborhood. Sports were also a big part of my life; I really enjoyed playing basketball and soccer, which kept me active and helped me make many friends.
In terms of personality, I was a bit introverted as a child, especially in unfamiliar environments, and I tended to be shy. However, when I was with close friends, I was much more open and talkative. I naturally displayed leadership qualities when interacting with friends, often organizing and guiding various activities.
I also showed an early interest in the arts; I loved drawing and creating art, which helped me express my emotions and ideas. Additionally, I was fascinated by science experiments and often tried doing simple experiments to understand scientific principles.
Growing up in a large family taught me how to adapt to different relationships and work collaboratively with others. My parents encouraged me to explore various interests and provided ample resources and support. I also had a close relationship with my grandparents, who shared their hobbies with me and exposed me to many things I had never encountered before.
Overall, I was a curious, active, and creative child, and my family and environment played a significant role in shaping who I am today. These personality traits and interests have influenced my life, and they continue to have an impact on me.
