Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrea Luna Reece.
Andrea, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
When I graduated from college with a BFA in ceramics, I was already working at a record company and I loved it! That job allowed me to travel and work with bands and people that I deeply cared for. However, as much as I loved the people and the bands, I was prevented from pursuing my true passion, art! It took me a few years to transition from a career in music to a career in art. I started with painting and showing my work in group and solo exhibits and had great success. In the midst of this, I came to realize that my true desire was to get back into working with clay so I bought a kiln and just started creating. My work was more sculptural at that time but one day my nephew came over to make some gifts for his mom and dad and we started playing with ceramic tiles and cups. I really enjoyed doing that. This sparked my transition into creating more home décor type products. I found there was quite a bit of interest in my work and from there, I was able to participate in my first craft show, Patchworks, which led to two different stores at that sale purchasing pieces for resale and that opened the door to the retail market. My business has just continued to grow from there. My current line is carried in over 40 retail stores nationwide.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s not all smooth sailing, there are seasons of grace and seasons of making some really tough decisions, pivots or learning to figure out how to work through obstacles. You can only go so far by yourself. You need an awesome support system around you that can offer a wide variety of advice, help and cheerleading.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I create handmade ceramics for the home. My passion stems from my love of all things clay and home and when I started combining these two ideas, planters, mugs, and wall art became the perfect starting place. I am known for my rainbow planters and joyful ceramics. What makes me proud of my business? I thoroughly love what I do and when I hear the words “ I love your work, it makes me so happy” from people I see out in the marketplace well that just brings me so much joy. Thousands of people own my work and choose to place it in their homes what could be better than that!
I have been fortunate enough to have my ceramics carried in retail stores across the nation, including Puerto Rico and London. In 2020, I was accepted into Madewell & Nest Hometown Hero Collective, this exposed my work to way more people and in 2021, I created a four-piece collection exclusively for Madewell!! I have a certain aesthetic as most creative do and I stay true to that, which is what sets me apart.
What are your plans for the future?
I look forward to continuing growing my business, my art and look forward to working on a body of work to show in a gallery setting.
