Raimondo Rossi & Ray Morrison of West Hollywood on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We recently had the chance to connect with Raimondo Rossi & Ray Morrison and have shared our conversation below.

Good morning Raimondo & Ray , we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
The first hour and a half of my day is definitely dedicated to a good breakfast, which goes along with reviewing the day’s schedule, the meetings I have, and the calls I’ll need to make for my projects. All of these projects give me deep inner satisfaction, above everything else, before anything else. Ah, I forgot to mention that, when I remember, I start the morning with hot water and lemon as my first drink, to cleanse my body.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Well, talking about myself has always been a challenging task. I would say, first of all, go and consult something about me on Google and look up information through the many interviews that, over the years, have given me the chance to meet truly interesting journalists and commentators. You can also visit my website, www.raimondorossi.org, and I would say that my world is about telling the story of human beings through photography, and telling the story of fashion through human beings. I have always sought to create a human connection, even in the most difficult backstages where I worked, such as at Milan Fashion Week in the early days of my career, with Prada, Missoni, Armani, and so on. I have always told behind-the-scenes stories to bring a human touch.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
I can say that the relationships that shaped me the most are the ones that confronted me with reality. They made me see my limits and pushed me to improve. I was born in September, under the sign of Virgo, a very rational sign, and even though my rising sign is creative, I often need reality and rationality in order to grow. I am therefore very grateful for some of the relationships I have had, as they truly helped me evolve.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
I would say, without a doubt, to dare, without being afraid of the unknown—whether it’s new things, unfamiliar places, or people you don’t know well yet. I would say to live without over-planning, also because things often change without warning. I would always say to focus on the future and the present, without overthinking.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? Is the public version of you the real you?
Without a doubt, yes, it is the same version, although in my public image it is usually presented in a slightly more orderly way, especially when it comes to certain details in fashion and photography, which are my field of work. However, I can say that whether I am photographing celebrities or someone who may live a much more modest and humble life, I do not change. I always try to remain very spontaneous and true to myself. I do not discriminate against anyone, nor do I let myself be influenced by the status of the people in front of me or the environments I find myself in. I believe that spontaneity and kindness are essential and rare qualities in today’s world, and I like to preserve them.

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. When do you feel most at peace?
The place where I feel most at peace is… actually, there are two. One is wherever I can meet many new people, listen to their stories, and learn about their traditions. I always prefer to talk with people from different countries, with different backgrounds—and even better if they are very different from each other. Another place that is definitely a source of inspiration, just like contact with other human beings, is nature. The beach or the forest are two places that attract me deeply, where I can feel the warmth of the sounds of nature. For me, those sounds then transform into details that I bring into my photographs or into my work as a creative director.
