Today we’d like to introduce you to Zi Ngozi Okachi
Hi Zi Ngozi , thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey as an activist & healer started while I was working in the corporate fashion world around the time George Floyd had passed. Before then, I had started mentoring marginalized groups of people in my company & community to help them increase their pay. It was apparent at that job like many other companies I had worked at before that they cared very little about the livelihood of their employees. Including those who faced homelessness as their pay was far below what was needed to get housing in the city.
I eventually resigned from my role due to the stress of the environment and charged out on my own, fully independent, divorced and hell bent on creating equity in the world with no clue on how to run a business.
I opened the doors to my new business Flourish Ase on September 22, 2021 for generational healing services and hit the ground running. Now 3 years later, I am a self-published author, published poet, speaker, musician, medium and seer. I made my first TV appearance this year and plan to keep charging forward to bring generational healing to every doorstep.
It was not an easy journey as there were many days, I was worried about where my next meal was coming from, how I was going to support my family, I ended up in the hospital many times from stress, landed myself at my mom’s house but in the end all of it got to me to where I am today. Thriving as a black, femme, indigenous philanthropist.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No ha, it has not been a smooth road. Especially in the beginning as I was learning how to navigate running an ethical business and releasing my own colonial trauma of overworking. This was the biggest struggle, feeling as though in order to feel successful or be measured as successful, I had to run myself into the ground.
As people say “most businesses don’t make it in their first couple of years,” I had to rid myself of this thinking. Ideas that were not mine and were not beneficial to my business.
It was crucial that I learn how to create safety within my business so that I could make an income. Truly this shift was the hardest. Having to learn to be seen when you spend a large majority of your life being told & treated like you’re unworthy of being seen. That alongside, losing benefits for healthcare made it challenging but ignited my connection to reclaim my roots as a medicine woman.
Throw in managing a relationship and you’ve got yourself quite the journey ahead of you.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
My work always goes back to spreading generational healing to the public. Whether it is through my 6 Month 1:1 journey called More Than Worthy, Ancestral Soul Tarot, writing books or sharing my music as an indie artist my work specializes in healing & progressing humanity.
I am best known for my mediumship, inner child & ancestral meditative quests, loudly speaking my truth and teaching others to do the same. Empowerment of the femme is what I like to call it.
I am extremely proud of getting my book on Audible, Wal Mart & Barnes and Noble and releasing my latest song “Falling Into Love” ( by Buujee Savage) and having it distributed by Roc Nation. It’s been an incredible year!
My passion for change and my authenticity to unapologetically be myself even down to the way I dress and celebrate my multi-ethnic background sets me a part from most of the world. Also, many people teach generational healing as just spirituality or “light language” but my fusion of activism, herbalism and decolonization work makes my business unlike any other.
