Today we’d like to introduce you to Wade Morris.
Hi Wade, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My name is Wade Morris. I am a 40-year-old Pga professional. I turned pro when I was 16 years old,I played mini tour events, my entire life and chased the dream. I’ve been sponsored by Jim Brown the football player. My brother-in-law is the guitarist from Guns N’ Roses, Gilby, Clark, and he was the first person that told me I had some talent in Golf and to pursue my dream at the age of 14. I’m now a full-time instructor and fine Joy in improving other people‘s golf games. I am currently the Pga lead instructor at Griffith Park golf course in Los Angeles, California.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has absolutely not been a smooth road. To pursue a plane career in golf takes a really solid support system, which I didn’t exactly have. Fortunately I did have a couple sponsors that helped me along the way, but never enough to really stay out there full-time. There’s also been quite a few injuries on the way. I had a neck surgery two years ago, a fusion and a screw inserted in my neck so the recovery from that has been a fun process. The grind of golf is very demoralizing at times yet we love the game so much and understand the process takes longer than expected, but makes it much more worthwhile when you get there.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
My job as a Pga professional is to not only grow the game of golf, but keep the people that already love golf playing the best they can or just improving in whatever they choose in order to keep this game fund for everyone. I specialize in not only golf swing mechanics and fundamentals but the playing of the game and the mental aspect of Golf. I would say I’m most known for my energetic golf lessons, some unorthodox training styles, and my wild clothes at times. When I am most proud of is being a Pga, professional and carrying that name with the most pride and respect possible I am also very proud to be a Titleist staff professional and push the brand which I feel is the greatest brand in golf and I’m also just proud to be an instructor of the game that we love so much and to have the respect in the golf industry.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
The best advice I can give any pursuing golf, instructor or professional is to get your Pga of America card. Go through the schooling go through the process and you’ll be very grateful at the end of it.
