Meet Veronica Tharmalingam of SOS Fashion in Brentwood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Veronica Tharmalingam.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
It all began when my best friend wanted to get a girlfriend! He would always look at the well-dressed girls and wonder why he was not getting any response. At that time, he wore (exclusively) baggy jeans and sweat shirts 🙂 and would tell me “the girl has to like me for my inner beauty not what I wear!!” My question to him was are you checking out her inner beauty right now?

I dragged him to a store and showed him options, and told him there is no pressure at all as he doesn’t need to buy anything. Guess what, he ended up buying all the items I showed him and Yes, he has been in a long-term relationship ever since!

I love helping people and see their faces light up, that is my best reward, and that is why I’m doing this.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I started off in Paris and as I had all my contacts there it was a pretty easy beginning. I helped my fellow class-mates to find their inner peace with themselves and feel more confident without being bankrupt first. Then when my entertainment contacts heard about what I was doing they asked me to help out too to give their looks a je ne sais quoi and a little more ooumph!

I never did any advertising and worked mostly on word of mouth, happy clients told their friends about their new looks that they were getting so much compliments about 😉

Then I moved to London for personal reasons and did the exact same thing. It was a bit difficult at first to establish a clientele as I knew no one but networking helped a lot and London is a very friendly city.

A year after I moved to LA and things for a bit more difficult as LA is a whole new animal. I had no reference points compared to Europe and it was very hard, kindda still is, to get the word of mouth going, as LA is such a huge melting-pot and my clients are of course locals for a certain amount of time (most of my clients are international).

I’m always looking at new ways to reach out to prospects (I did my first ads here in LA for the first time since I started SOS Fashion). But I am a strong believer of word of mouth, a happy client talking about their experience to their family and friends is the best ad/compliment I could hope and thrive for!

So, let’s switch gears a bit and go into the SOS Fashion story. Tell us more about the business.
You are always judged based on what you wear and how you present yourself literally in 5 seconds even before you say “Hi”, be it an interview, date or day to day life!

So YES, LOOKS MATTERS!

SOS Fashion was created to provide a high end personal shopping experience to everyone. Whether you are in need of a complete relooking for an interview, casting, date, social event, or just your day to day life, at SOS Fashion we provide the savoir-faire for both men and women.

We at SOS Fashion offer event based coaching, complete makeovers, and personal shopping services. With each service offered we provides an evaluation of your needs and wants, explore your existing wardrobe to better understand your current style, and then our work begins leaving you to feel even more fabulous and confident!

At the end of your sessions with us, you leave with an amazing new wardrobe and a personalized cheat sheet to work that new wardrobe to the core, which highlights everything we went through during your makeover: do’s and don’ts, your colors, what to wear and not wear according to your body type and complexion.

The other thing that sets SOS Fashion apart from competition is: we Do NOT collaborate with any stores meaning we are not here to push sell products that you don’t need in your wardrobe just to get commission! Our unique goal is to make you look perfect and make you feel confident with your new look. Our clients appreciate this as we go shopping together they feel more like going out with their close friend who has their best interest and not with a sales associate who is giving false compliments to everything they put on. We do not force our clients to buy anything!

One more thing that sets us apart is: We always ask our clients where they normally go shopping for clothing and take them to those stores and show them how to shop right for their body type and complexion. We also introduce them to new stores in their budget range to complete their new looks. We want our clients to feel self-sufficient and confident in their new looks once the make-over is done!

I don’t really believe in luck, I believe in hard work, the more effort you put in the more results you see which is often misunderstood as luck.
