Meet Valerie Rose Lohman

Today we’d like to introduce you to Valerie Rose Lohman.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Valerie Rose. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started acting super young – my older sister is an Opera singer, so as soon as she started performing, I wanted to follow suit and be just like her. My parents are both creative and very supportive, so by the time I was nine, I was constantly doing shows at local community and regional theatre around Southern California.

I loved doing Musical Theatre, and I managed to persuade my parents to let me audition for and ultimately attend the famous Orange County High School of the Arts Musical Theatre Conservatory. I went to school there for three years and loved it, but after making my professional debut at 15 with a local Regional Theatre, I decided to finish High School online and start acting professionally. And that’s what I’ve been doing ever since.

After getting my first agent while playing Anne Frank in “The Diary of Anne Frank” in North Hollywood, I quickly jumped into film and TV, which I have fallen madly in love with. And about four years ago, I fell into voiceover, almost completely by accident. But it has since turned into one of the most rewarding aspects of my job. So that’s where I am today. I love what I do – I get to jump from the VO booth to the stage to a film set!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It’s been a crazy ride! No journey is ever smooth, but I think that is the part that makes you grow. I can’t count the number of bad auditions I’ve had, but that is what teaches you. That’s how you get better, work harder, and gain confidence in yourself. I’ve also come to learn to go with the flow and be open to when opportunity knocks. If I had told ten years old me that I would have a career playing characters in Video Games, I wouldn’t have believed it!

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I am a Professional Actress and Voiceover Artist. I’ve appeared on several TV shows, including “Cousins for Life” and “Game Shakers” – both on Nickelodeon, as well as the horror series “Threads” on Go90 and “The Text Committee” on FacebookWatch. I’ve also recently starred in the film “Intrepid” (Young Entertainer Award Win for Best Actress) – which just screened at Comic Con San Diego, as well as the films “She Comes in Colors Everywhere” and “Dojo Girl” – both of which are currently hitting festivals across the country.

Onstage I have performed all over SoCal, most notable playing Mary Phagan in “Parade” (3D Theatricals, Ovation Award), Anne in “The Diary of Anne Frank” (Inland Valley Rep), and Dorothy in “The Wizard of Oz”.

But I am probably best known for my voiceover work. In 2017 I starred in an indie-darling turned smash hit video game called “What Remains of Edith Finch”. I was nominated for a BAFTA Award for my performance as Edith and got to fly to London for the ceremony. After that, I was tapped to star in “Wolfenstein: Youngblood”, which is the latest game in the ICONIC “Wolfenstein” franchise. That project was a dream, and I did both voiceover work and motion capture for the role. Plus, we filmed it in Sweden, and I really love to travel for work!

I think what has set me apart is the diverse opportunities I have been given. I love feeling well rounded by being able to jump from medium to medium. It has helped me learn a lot and grow so much in my profession.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I am looking forward to the next project! I have a couple of exciting projects lined up, and I’m currently finishing up the run of a play in LA. Honestly, I am always looking forward to telling a new story. There are so many people I’d love to work with, stories I’d love to tell, and I’m just really excited for the future.
