Meet Travis Rich of Training By Travis in Hollywood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Travis Rich.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
After becoming exhausted working in the entertainment industry, I was ready for a career change. Since all I knew after graduating college was ‘set life’, I was at a loss. I spent a few stressful months trying to figure out the next chapter of my life and then it dawned on me. A few years back, my girlfriend at the time and now wife, bought me a package of personal training sessions for Christmas, and I absolutely loved it! I have always loved health and fitness and consider myself to be a real people person, so I thought, why not become a personal trainer!

My next step was finding what certification I would like and how to go about getting it. After some research, I decided to go with the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM), as I really liked its scientific backbone and what the certification stood for. After already having a Bachelor’s Degree, I knew I would benefit most by attending a hands-on classroom and gym based program, rather than doing it at home online. If I was going to do it, I was going to do it right.

I then found the American Fitness and Nutrition Academy (AFNA) in Pasadena, where I attended an intensive 5-month course. I thrived in this learning environment as the instructors were fantastic and really made us comprehend and retain the coursework, over prepping us for the certification exam. It was some of the best education I have ever received and am so thankful I attended.

After becoming certified, I knew I wanted to work for myself as a mobile personal trainer. Sometimes the hardest part of going to the gym is literally just going to the gym. If I could provide a service where I come to my clients with everything they will need for a great workout, I could make health and fitness goals that much easier to achieve. That’s what I did and that’s where I am today, still in love with what I do.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The greatest challenge in building my career as a personal trainer is obtaining new clients. Living in a city of over 4 million people, there is competition in almost every field, so my biggest source of new clients comes from word of mouth and my online presence through Google and Yelp. Owning your own business is difficult, so for me it’s all about plugging away and keeping my clients fit, healthy, and happy.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Training By Travis – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Training By Travis is a LA based mobile personal training service. I travel to my clients with everything they’ll need for a fun, safe, and effective workout. Some clients like to train in the privacy of their homes or apartments, while others I meet outside at a local park. I know a lot of us live hectic lifestyles so I like to make fitness for my clients as convenient as possible.

My specialties as a personal trainer include weight-loss, fat-loss, toning, strength, cardio and core exercises. I work with people of all ages and fitness levels. Since everyone is different with different goals and capabilities, I assess my clients before starting anything physical and then design a program specifically for them. I cater to all of my client’s goals, wants and needs.

Some people are hesitant about starting up with a new trainer, afraid that they might be yelled at, over worked and/or get injured. I pride myself in being able to properly assess my clients and get them started in a program that’s right for them. Whether someone is looking to become re-introduced to exercise or further their current state of fitness, I do it safely and effectively.

What sets me apart from other trainers is my mobile service, my punctuality, knowledge, and demeanor. I’m a super happy, personable guy that gives 110% to my clients each and every session. I know what I’m doing and I always show up on time ready to give my clients a challenging but fun workout every time. I love what I do, and I think it shows.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
My plans for the future are pretty simple; continue to grow my business while I continue to learn and grow as a personal trainer.

Ahhh, Mr Travis, great article, and knowing you as well as I do, I agree with you 100% about your assessment of yourself: you ARE super happy, and I would add to that you’re super-friendly, personable, fun to be around. If I didn’t live 892 miles away, I’d ask you in a second to drive over here and get me in shape!
