Meet Trailblazer Jeni and Oscar Castro

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeni and Oscar Castro.

Jeni and Oscar, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
It all started when we were laying in bed and I blurted out…”I want to open a coffee shop” And my husband knows that I always execute my crazy ideas. After a long confused stare he says, “But we have no coffee shop experience” I giggled and said that drinking it three times a day was at least a good start!

We are Jeni and Oscar Castro and we are a husband and wife team that decided to take our coffee addictions to the next level. Enter Coffee Dose.

After a year in our Costa Mesa location with East Eighteenth salon, we decided to open up a second location with Bandier on Melrose Avenue in Los Angeles. Currently, we’re building the catering part of our business so that we can be involved with rad events around LA/OC. We’re focused on making California a better place — one Anti-Bitch Serum at a time.

Has it been a smooth road?
Building a business is never a smooth road. The only thing that matters is that you have the balls to ignore the obstacles and keep going. I’ve been a woman in business for many years now between Bronzed Bunny and Coffee Dose and I wouldn’t trade this journey for the world. My advice is to go with your gut, ignore the negativity (because everyone is offended at everything nowadays), support other women in business when you can, and hope that you can impact people’s lives with the brand you built because that’s the most rewarding part of it all.

We’d love to hear more about Coffee Dose.
What sets Coffee Dose apart from the others? Ha, read our cups. We break the rules. We push the boundaries. We don’t give a fuck. We built this brand because we wanted to create something special and something unique, and I whole-heartedly think we’ve succeeded in that area. We just want to serve the best coffee, made with the best ingredients, in a way that will make people smile and want to share us with the world.

Finding a mentor and building a network are often cited in studies as a major factor impacting one’s success. Do you have any advice or lessons to share regarding finding a mentor or networking in general?
Look up! Talk to people! You never know who you’re talking to or who they know. Connections are everything in business and I treat everyone with kindness in hopes that they extend that same courtesy to me. Maybe we can help each other out, maybe we’ll connect down the road, or maybe we’ll just be a small positive part of each other’s day. Either way, go out of your way to meet people in your community or that step through your doors because you never know how much you could end up impacting each other.
