Meet Tommy Del Favero of San Juan Capistrano, CA

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tommy Del Favero.

Hi Tommy, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I moved out here to Orange County in 2012 pursuing opportunities centered around my masters degree in human movement and corrective exercise. I worked at a sports medicine clinic owned by the late Chuck Pechin and Dr. Mike Flores. I took my experience from the clinic and tailored it to youth athletic development at Athletes Choice, which was owned by Nick Tunnel. Nic and I built a community of youth athletes, teaching life lessons as we improve their ability to perform in each of their individual sports.

In 2022 I began working entirely independently here in Rancho Santa Margarita, California. My business took the name Voodoo Stache Movement due to many clients telling me the way I could improve them with one simple drill was like voodoo magic. I specialize in getting people out of pain and helping them create longevity. My target clients are aging athletes who were active in their youth and are currently encountering various roadblocks in terms of pain, energy level, health issues, etc. I take broken aged athletes and transform them into functional adults who have the longevity and resilience to keep up with their kids and with life.

In the beginning, I was always searching for people to help with the motivation of being paid to do so to care for my family. I have now adopted an abundant mindset, which has allowed me to openly serve and care for everyone. I come in a contact with without the underlying need to get something back from them. My goal is to serve as many people as I can, and pass on the knowledge that I have acquired so that more people can live a life with their families as God intended. We were not meant to be active when we were young and slow down to a screeching halt as we age. We should instead be focused on growing and bettering ourselves daily, so that we can thrive as we grow older and pass our knowledge down to the next generation.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Any journey with going on is full of struggles. I moved out here with two people who I knew of in the area that allowed me to stay with them occasionally as I built the life that I currently have. I would’ve never been able to do it without their generosity and love.

I was told by my parents that there was no way I could move out here and create my own job without already having one. This required me to become resilient, gritty, and consistent in my efforts to grow my knowledge and my business. Very few of the clients I had over the years were simply just given to me on a whim. They came to me through relationships, which I created by serving others. With any business, there are ebbs and flows and ups and downs, which were challenging. There’s a lot of freedom in owning your own business and to be in charge of your future, but there’s also a lot of pressure and responsibility to be taken on how your business is going according to the amount of effort you put into it. Getting married to my amazing wife in 2018 is when I realized that I was no longer just responsible for my own needs but for my wife’s as well. In 2020 we were blessed with the birth of our daughter and in 2023 with our son.

After many years of slowly building momentum, which was hard to see on the front end, is now compounding in a way where I am able to serve more people at a greater capacity than ever before and many new opportunities are on the horizon for taking my business to the next level.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I specialize in getting aging athletes out of pain and turning them into thriving functional adults who have the longevity and capacity to live life the way they want to live it as they age.

During my initial assessments, I observe how people walk, how their feet interact with the floor, how they breathe, and determine how much space there is in many joints that may hinder their ability to move and perform.

Once this process is completed, I have all the information necessary to determine a precise protocol to get them out of pain, return their bodies, back to a more neutral position, and teach them how to get strong in this new position to keep them healthy and thriving.

People always talk about how life-changing it is in performing a specific drill or two and seeing what a great difference it has in their ability to move. This is where the voodoo magic comes in. I have become masterful in the ability of figuring out what an individual nervous system needs to reset the system and get things back on track.

Nothing is more rewarding than seeing people take a new lease on life as they are able to get back to doing the things they truly enjoy. When you grow up as an athlete, you’re used to being able to move how you want at any time, but as you age and those abilities are taken away, in cast doubt over everything you do. That doubt, depression, and anxiety of your inability to perform spills over into other aspects of your life and affects those around you.

I don’t advertise myself as a trainer, who is helping you lose weight and get shredded for the sake of looking aesthetically pleasing. My intention is to transform how people live their life by giving them back the ability to move as they once did. My clients all get stronger, move with better competence, increase their abilities to perform the tasks they enjoy, but they also feel a shift in their overall energy which grows their capacity to accomplish their daily tasks and increase the love they have for their family and the people they meet.

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
Nothing I have or the ability to do would not exist if it was not for God blessing me in an abundant amount of ways. He gave me the mind, body, and capacity to care for others and pass on the knowledge that I have acquired.

Dr. Mike Flores of Sports Med And Recovery was the first doctor I worked for in this area and he has taught me a great deal in the areas of Chiropractic, soft tissue work, and patient care, and business.

Nick Tintle is one of my best friends and he truly helped me change from a person really good at acquiring knowledge that could get people out of pain in a clinical setting into someone who can apply those concepts in a sports performance setting and still yield the same results and more. My ability to serve multiple people at once each in their own individual way was grown and built over the many years working together with Nic at Athletes Choice.

In recent years, the mentorship of Conor Harris and his Biomechanics program as exponentially increased my effectiveness in doing what I do. His ability to take complex concepts and simplify them has created a big shift and what I do. At one time in my career, I was really good at getting people out of pain, but I was less skilled at applying beneficial, strength programs that mirrored the games received from the decompressive drills. I am currently able to get someone out of pain and into lifting weights and getting strong within their first session or two. I have now become a master of putting people through a program that helps to reset their nervous system, get them out of pain, and increase the strength of their foundation to a capacity they never thought possible.

Dr. Kaisa Lopes has been an amazing influence in my life as well. She has opened my eyes to the power of Acupuncture And its ability to restore the body energetically. Her recommendations through homeopathy have gotten myself and countless clients out of pain and discomfort on a regular basis. If it wasn’t for her high level of skill, we would have never been able to get pregnant with our children. I will always be eternally grateful for everything she has done for our family and all the people I send to her.

My wife has helped me recognize blind spots I never realized that I had in regards to my ability to communicate and connect with people. There was a time when my ability to truly listen with my heart when people spoke was very low. I would just wait for someone to finish speaking so I could say what I wanted to say. She helped me break this pattern and grow in my compassion for each person I meet. She also helped me have the confidence in growing my business and increasing my prices as necessary. If it was not for her support, I would not be where I am today.
