Today we’d like to introduce you to Tia Jones.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I knew from a young age that I wanted to be an educator. I had memorable teachers within the Detroit Public School system that challenged yet inspired me to want to learn. My career as an educator has been spent doing that for others. Inspiring a love of learning in children that have varying exceptionalities, diagnosis, and challenges is my always focus. So when I started my business, I did so with that in mind. As an academic and organizational coach, my team and I work with students to ensure their road to success is as clear as possible. I’ve learned that without relationships and connection, learning is not as effective or lasting, and that became the priority… From changing their attitude toward writing as we develop those skills to helping them become more independent in organizing their school and social life, I am their teacher, their coach, and most importantly their cheerleader, and I love every second of it.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The most challenging aspect as truly been accepting that what I bring to a student’s learning experience is valuable, and not just for the student but the entire family. Embracing that thought meant expanding my business model, which meant bringing on people that shared my values and could see my vision. It is difficult to open your hand and let someone help you grow the baby you’re holding so tightly, but it has been the exhilarating part of this journey so far.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
My team and I offer virtual and on-site academic help for reading, writing, homework, organization, and study skills. This year, we celebrated FIVE years working in this community and have also seen students in Texas. Washington D.C., New Jersey, Florida, and Beijing, China! I’m most proud of that because it meant also celebrating and establishing who we are as educators in this field and being able to maintain that even during difficult times like the pandemic. No matter what, my priority is building the confidence of the young person in front of me first. My heart is to continue finding ways to keep them motivated while learning AND living to their full potential.
Who else deserves credit in your story?
I credit everything to God. I’m so grateful for the opportunity to do what I do and to connect with people in this way. I’m also extremely grateful to my clients and colleagues who tend to keep me busy with referrals. Word of mouth is how we’ve been built, and it keeps us going. I’m humbled that they think of us so often.
