Meet Tess Mon Pere of West Avenue Records in Corona

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tess Mon Pere.

Tess, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I’ve had a passion for singing ever since I can remember. My mama always says that before I could even speak, she would find me singing little melodies on my own. As I grew older, I expanded my love for music through piano lessons and vocal lessons starting at four years old. From there, I leaped at every opportunity to perform, including musical theater, choir, pageants, and singing the national anthem at various local events. My involvement in choir, specifically, gave me opportunities to sing in incredible venues all over the state. Eventually, during my senior year of high school, I was contacted by an agent who’d seen a video of me singing a cover of “You Are The Reason” by Callum Scott online. They encouraged me to join an online singing competition in Los Angeles, California called “Musicash”. This competition involved artists from all over the globe competing online for a cash prize. That experience alone taught me so much about growing a career in music and led me to earning an opportunity to work with my current record label: West Avenue Records. Now, I’ve released my first single: “Mantra”, and plan to continue releasing more music.

Has it been a smooth road?
I once saw a photo that illustrated that most people think the road to success is a smooth uphill road, but the reality is that the road is full of bumps and twists and turns. That’s something that I always keep in mind because the most important thing is to keep going. When I was young, I was bullied at school and also suffered from depression. I have worked through all of that and I am cognizant that I will always be a work in progress. More recently, the pandemic threw a bit of a monkey wrench in my life. We had just started to get things moving with my music when the whole world came to a screeching halt. Then we had to do everything remotely. Now, we are all learning a new way of doing things. All in all, I’ve learned that you can not control what happens to you, you can only control how you react. I’ve learned to find a lesson in all of the ups and downs of life.

Can you give our readers some background on your music?
I am a recording artist with West Avenue Records Inc., specializing in pop music. Most people recognize my voice because it has a “smokey”, classical tone to it and my music tells a story.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I believe that Los Angeles is the perfect place to make dreams come true! This city offers an array of opportunities. With hard work, passion, and ambition; anything is possible.
