Today we’d like to introduce you to Tesha Ofelia.
Hi Tesha, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’ll start my story by sharing my recent journey with stage 3 breast cancer before the age of 40. June 2019, I got a call that changed my life forever. I went through a severe depression for months, Not knowing what my future may hold. I searched high and low on the Internet to find someone that looks like me, a young woman of color with breast cancer. Unfortunately, I was unsuccessful and from that moment, God gave me the strength of guidance to know I will represent that girl of color for the next one that will be searching. I use my diagnosis to ask my strength… I automatically felt that God gave me this task to help his people. He knew that I will be loud and proud, and I will make sure other women self-confident and loved during their journey.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The past three years have been extremely difficult. I’ve had over 12 surgeries three blood transfusions blood clots and recently diagnosed with lupus and rheumatoid arthritis.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m so proud of myself because even through the journey that I’ve had, I managed to become the first business owner in my family and entrepreneur. I have my own clothing line of custom faux fur called Closet Junkye. I also own a hot sauce line called Sauce Junkye. My brother and I own a transitional home to help the homeless transition back into society. We help them with getting basic stuff like their ID social and also assist with jobs. We provide them with food and shelter in the living. Space to remind them that they’re human and they deserve love as well.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I think God for an opportunity to be an advocate for other women that’s battling breast cancer. Hopefully, I can help someone out there that is down on their luck and feel as though they wanna give up. God has blessed me with them another chance, and so I’m gonna use this chance by spreading the word advocating for yourself and listening to your body. Not giving up fights through those bad days because they won’t last forever.
