Meet Taylor Hartman of Sacramento

Today we’d like to introduce you to Taylor Hartman.

Taylor, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Hi, I’m Taylor! I am a mom to four kids, ages 3-11. Two boys and two girls. I am also the owner of Sac Town For Kids, a website and social media platform where I love to share things to do around the Sacramento area.

I was born and raised in Roseville, CA. I moved away for 7 years. I met my husband while attending school in Idaho. After college we moved to Pennsylvania for graduate school. Our first child was born out there. While we lived in PA and attended school, we fell in love with the area and explored all the places close by. It was so fun!

We made our way back to Northern California in 2016. We lived in Sausalito for six months, Natomas for another 6 months, Auburn for two and a half years and then moved to Roseville. We have now been living in Roseville for six years.

Moving around so much taught me to get out and explore where you live. I learned that anywhere can feel like home if you let it. You can end up loving any place if you have an open mindset.

So, back in 2016, when blogging was the thing to do, I started a blog, called “Explore and Love Where you Live” (so cheesy, I know!) I shared about the adventures my family was going on, hoping to inspire others to do the same.

Shortly after starting my blog it got hacked, so I pivoted and made an Instagram account. I started sharing there. I wasn’t very consistent and posted sporadically. Then in 2022, I started taking it more seriously and putting in more effort. I did a full rebrand, changing my name to “Sac Town For Kids,” got a logo designed and updated my account to look more professional.

In 2024, my youngest child was two at the time and for the first time in a decade, I wasn’t drowning in the trenches of motherhood and finally had some more time to dedicate to my own passions. That’s when things really took off. I started getting brave enough to ask to collaborate with brands and other accounts in the area. The community and people really resonated with what I was sharing and loved getting to know more about this area. This year I created a website and a summer guidebook.

I absolutely love the Sacramento Area! It’s the best place to raise a family and explore the beauty Northern California has to offer.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I briefly shared about it in my story above, but shortly after starting my blog back in 2016 as an outlet after loosing my son at 38 weeks gestation I got hacked. It set me back a lot, I questioned if that was a sign that I shouldn’t be doing this. But after pushing through those uncomfortable feelings, I pivoted and starting sharing on Instagram.

Another challenge has been balancing family and work. My family is my main priority and being a stay at home mom and starting a business has been challenging for sure.

Getting out of my comfort zone and learning to do new things has also been hard. I am a people pleaser and a perfectionist. I have had to learn that I am not going to get it perfect or right the first time. Sometimes not knowing how to do something has prevented me from even trying. I have had to learn that done is better than perfect and to speak up for myself and say no. I have had to get comfortable with being uncomfortable. I have had to figure things out as I go.

Another challenge has been negotiating with businesses and speaking up and asking to get paid for my time and energy. I think as content creators we aren’t valued for the time and effort that we put in. Essentially I am a mini advertising or marketing company. I have built trust with my audience and provide a valuable resource to them. I don’t get paid for what I am doing, although a lot of people think that I do. However, I do a lot of gifted exchanges, which I am grateful for! But, also there are a lot of over head costs that I have to cover on my own and it makes it hard when I am not earning a passive income.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a content creator and marketer for the Sacramento area. I specialize in experiences over things. I share about parks, hidden gems, outdoor activities, seasonal activities and events, places to eat and more. I specialize in trips around Northern California. Sacramento is the prefect home base to lots of great places. We are two hours away from Tahoe and the mountains with lots of gold rush history and then two hours away from the coast with San Francisco and the Bay Area. I love to share itineraries with activities, places to eat and things to do in different cites. I love showcasing the beautiful places that this area has to offer!

I am most proud of my Sacramento area summer guidebook. It’s a comprehensive guide to having a fun summer in Sacramento. That way parents don’t have to spend time planning and searching Instagram for ideas. It’s all in one place for them to refer back to and plan. It has day trip ideas, a list of splash pads with descriptions about each one and activity pairing ideas, a list of shaded and themed parks, indoor play places and museums when it’s too hot to go outside, weekly theme ideas, even ideas on how to spend down days at home over the summer.
It’s a great resource to families, people visiting the Sacramento area or adults who are just kids at heart.

What sets me apart from others is my deep value of community, outdoors and family. I prioritize those things in my life and live a life that reflects that. I love to make seasonal bucket lists. I try to do something new each season with my family. I love to aspire others to do the same. Life is worth enjoying and living!!

So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
I love collaborating and working with others!! They can email me at [email protected] to collaborate. I also have a website, www.sactownforkids. com where people can purchase my guidebook for $10. I also have blog posts with ideas on there. My favorites are my staycation ideas. Follow and engage with me on Instagram and or Tik Tok.
