Meet Hunter Carney of Tab Out in Hollywood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Hunter Carney.

Hunter, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I really started with music. I played bass guitar for a local punk band in Vermont when I was 16 and from playing music, I grew to love the stage. From that, I moved on to stand-up comedy. I started my stand-up career in Denver, Colorado in 2012 and have been getting on stage as much as I can where ever I go. While doing stand-up, I would occasionally film comedy skits with friends and I completely fell in love with the process. Around 2017 I started taking my acting and writing seriously. I joined many acting classes and would write as much as I could. When I realized that I wanted to see my writing in action, I learned the camera and the editing side of the entertainment that I loved. Once I learned the ins and outs, I needed to have them all land in the same space, and that space was my series Tab Out which was born in 2019 and is going strong to this day.

Has it been a smooth road?
It was rough in the beginning when I quit my 9-5 job. I basically turned my entire life upside down to pursue this dream. I packed up the car, sold most of my things and headed to Los Angeles to pursue the dream. I think that it was rough in the beginning for sure, but it has definitely gotten smoother as time has passed.

Please tell us about Tab Out.
I would have to say that I’m most proud of the show Tab Out that I created. We are on episode 58 and going strong. This show has been a great learning tool for me. It gives me the opportunity to write, edit, act and direct all in a weeks’ time. I also love becoming friends with all the actors that are in the show. They really become family as time goes on and I love giving them the opportunity to get some acting done in a non-stress environment. It’s a great place to practice all the things that we will encounter on a larger set.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Los Angeles is the mecca for the entertainment business! I also think that it is a great place for networking with other entertainers. Los Angeles gives you more opportunity to do the things that you love.
