Meet Sun Mi Park of Pine Tree Acupuncture

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sun Mi Park.

Sun Mi , we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My name is Sun Mi Park, O.M.D. I have worked and managed my clinic at Pine Tree Acupuncture since 2005. I started in Fountain Valley and have been working at the Fullerton location since 2016.

I started this clinic because my son has Autism, and I was used to being gaslit, and my son being prescribed medication with terrible symptoms by Western doctors. My son started developing a phobia of doctor, so I wanted to find a more holistic approach to helping him. I figured as a mother, he would get used to seeing doctors if he saw that his mom was a doctor too. I studied Eastern medicine and acupuncture and slowly began helping my son with co-morbid symptoms that come with Autism, such as anxiety and gut issues. What started as a practice help my son became a way to help others as well. I am a devout Christian and also thought this would be a great practice to bring when I go on mission trips through my church and other mission groups.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. When I stepped into my Eastern medicine and acupuncture program, I had already graduated from my university more than a couple decades ago. I also needed to learn everything from the ground up, like how to run a business, how to do medical billing, how to work with clients, etc. I also had my family to take care of, and everything was very challenging. I definitely made some mistakes, but keeping a positive and open mindset and meeting many amazing people kept me going. I am still learning everyday, but I am so grateful to be able to help people in need and meet new people all the time.

Pine Tree Acupuncture, Inc. is an acupuncture clinic and Eastern medicine provider that has been in operation since 2005. We believe in a holistic and whole-body perspective in order to treat the patients that come through our doors. Although we treat every ailment, our main focus in pain management and rehabilitation. We are different from other clinics, because we blend all the positive elements of both Western medicine and Eastern medicine and take an integrative and personalized approach to all of our patients.

We are most proud of our ability to help others from mental and physical pain. We take Medicare, and most forms of health insurance. We believe in healthcare access for all despite economic struggles and are willing to work with people from wherever they are in life.

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
Try to get into an educational program as soon as possible. Make sure to develop relationships with your instructors and the people around you. All the students may not be acupuncturists or medical providers yet but the connections you make can lead to opportunities later.
