Meet Sheena Walker of Vinyl Cosmetics in Mid-City

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sheena Walker.

Sheena, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
For over a decade while working in the beauty industry, I was on a mission to find the perfect long-lasting liquid lipstick. I had exposure to almost every brand you could imagine as a beauty store general manager, cosmetic department manager, buyer, account executive, and freelance makeup artist for multiple lines.

Most brands didn’t offer them at the time, and the majority of liquids that were available would tend to dry out the lips, flake, or have limited color assortments. I knew there was a market out there for fellow liquid lipstick lovers with no time for touch-ups. So eight years ago I started my research, and alas the perfect formula.

In 2017, the dream became a reality, and Thunder Kiss Liquid Lipsticks launched with over 30 shades to choose from.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It’s definitely been a bumpy but rewarding road.  Since launching in May of last year, I have tried many things that have and haven’t worked and learned from them.  It’s how we evolve and grow.  It’s exciting to see everything that we have coming in the near future that I could only have imagined just two years ago.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Vinyl Cosmetics story. Tell us more about the business.
Vinyl Cosmetics is perfectly pure for the daringly bold. Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I have worked multiple jobs, spent endless nights awake, and given everything I have to making my brand become a reality.  So I don’t know if it’s luck so much as hard work and patience. I will say however, the bad luck of a motorcycle accident was what led me to my good luck of owning my own business by actually allowing me the time my start-up needed to launch.  Now, I am living my entrepreneurial dream.
