Today we’d like to introduce you to Seta Mary Avedissian.
Hi Seta, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I grew up in Aleppo, Syria, in a traditional religious Armenian household. My ancestors are from Western Armenia (currently eastern Turkey) and have settled in Syria since the late 19th century. Due to the Syrian war in 2013, I moved to the US after spending a year in Lebanon. Although I had been connected to the spiritual world since I can remember, through dreams and by connecting to my late grandfather’s spirit, it wasn’t until 2019 that I started getting professional coffee readings, which kickstarted my conscious spiritual awakenings and journey.
Coffee Reading, also known as Tasseography, is the art of reading coffee grounds or tea leaves. This form of divination has been present in my family for as long as I can remember. I knew how to brew coffee since I was 6 years old, as my mom, my biggest coffee fan, would praise my coffee-making skills and ask me to make her coffee every day. Being a Leo sun who loves praise, I would fall for it every time. The art of coffee reading has been a light and fun part of interactions and rituals within the women in the SWANA communities. Every time we would have lunch at my grandfather’s, the women would gather, sip on coffee, and a designated person would read everyone’s coffee grounds. Now, that person is me with my friends and community members.
I believe this form of divination art must be protected and practiced at all costs.
Before I began offering professional coffee readings, I started working with flower essences as a way to heal myself and support others in their journey. I learned how to create and recommend essences to others based on what they were going through. And to this day, my journey of learning continues. I learn from the flowers and the plants every day as I deepen my relationship with them.
Flower Essences are energetic formulas. Think of them as supplements for your energy body that support your emotional and overall well-being. They are collected in water under sunlight and preserved in brandy, later diluted and bottled. The first flower essence I worked with was Yarrow. Yarrow helped me set energetic boundaries so I could have healthy interactions with people without taking on their issues. As a recovering empath and people pleaser, setting boundaries and saying no often has helped me have a better-quality life.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t been a smooth road. After moving here, I spent 7 years in LA, living in survival mode until 2020, came and nudged me to face my grief and process it. I didn’t know how much unprocessed grief I had stored in my body until I worked with spiritual professionals, went through Flower Essence therapy, and became a certified flower essence practitioner. Working with flower essences has transformed my life and allowed my true essence to come forward. In my work today, one of the main challenges is not having my family’s support and understanding. As I mentioned earlier, I come from a line of traditional Christians, and spiritual work is considered frowned upon and even a scam. Even though I love my work and I am good at what I do, I often move through lots of doubt and fear, and I have found the best antidote for that is ritual, prayer, strengthening my intuition muscle, and not taking life too seriously. Taking the road less traveled can bring lots of disappointments because you will make mistakes along the way. Therefore, not taking myself too seriously and being silly are key for me to enjoy this journey.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Arevv Alchemy is a global healing community serving those who wish to deepen their connection to the Spirit and plant worlds by working with flower essences and receiving insight from coffee readings. Our mission is to empower folks to trust their intuition and follow their dreams to reach liberation and live authentically in tune with nature.
I specialize in working with healers, recovering people pleasers, and those going through big transitions. I travel often, and most of my products are on my travels.
My latest creation is an Auric Spray called Essence of Karahunj. Karahunj, like Stonehenge in the UK, was created in the south of Armenia as an offering to the Armenian Sun-god Ari to track the movement of the sky, specifically the Sun. I was guided to collect the essence of the stones at this magical place and turn it into a Spray infused with Frankincense essential oil. The feedback on this spray has been very encouraging. It’s a grounding spray that supports you in doing difficult things and gives you a sense that everything will be okay. I am incredibly proud of this creation.
I teach how to make flower essences workshops both in the US and globally. I offer virtual and in-person coffee sessions at pop-up markets or local coffee shops like The Moody Vegan. I carry flower essences and auric sprays in my online shop.
My intention is to help people reach emotional and spiritual sovereignty through plant energetics. My lifestyle includes a lot of traveling, so my offerings change accordingly. I love to offer coffee readings and flower essence-making workshops as I travel, and the shop is open seasonally.
Are there any books, apps, podcasts, or blogs that help you do your best?
I am currently loving the book “The Land in Our Bones” by Leyala Feghali, a cultural worker and folk herbalist. Leyala’s work is a pillar of anti-colonialism, rooted in community engagement and deepening our connection to the land through the exploration of our plantcestors. My work is heavily influenced by Leyala and her teachings.
Additionally, I adore the Slumflower Hour by Chidera Eggerue, a Nigerian British author. Her podcast is dedicated to disobedient women navigating relationships with men. I believe Chidera’s work is crucial for any woman experiencing misogyny and existing within patriarchal systems.
I also enjoy The Flower Apothecary Blog for insights into various types of flower essences and their effects: https://theflowerapothecary.com/blog/.
